57,000 mls works perfectly but pulled the dip stick out today and noticed oil is black? is this normal? will get it changed can anyone recommend a good quality oil? thanks john.

dont whatever you do go to ACC in cheshunt, they are no good with the scorpio as people are starting to find out

Oil should not be black, but it does go that way. Do you mean really black or sort of dark brown? Either way, if the 'box is working fine then get the oil and filter changed. I used Comma Dexron III IIRC from Halfords a couple of years ago, filter and sump gasket had to come from Ford though  :)

you are looking at gearbox dipstick and not the engine oil dipstick
