Title: 2 Lower or Not 2 Lower - that is the Question?
Post by yangi on Jan 22nd, 2007, 10:33pm
Having asked about Suspension options (OEM or Aftermarket) - thanks to all who replied  :) - "Drawlings" posted a link for buying 30mm lower springs (seemed reasonable cost too!

Now, I really don't know what to do  ??? I will be fitting new Springs and Dampers all round soon - and having previously owned a 535i that was lowered (in the begining far too much in reality - about 40mm, but brought back to about 25/30mm in the end....) it did look the Dogs Bo:-X

So what is the general opinion on  [] or  {} - Obviously personal taste comes into it - but apparently I got a wierd taste in cars  :P - so ignoring that  ::) what's the techinical reasons for and against lowering by 30mm?

All advice appreciated before I make any mistakes  ;D

Cheers
Yangi

:D  Forgot to ADD
That - I might be looking at a set of bigger alloys in the near future - depending on what other issues the Scorp throws up in next few months  ::)

Probably only upto 17" - although 18" not ruled out (apart from on cost grounds)  ::)

So - Lower 30mm - then fit 17"/18" wheels????? :-/  I can hear most replies now  ;D

done all that to my 'familey' car, made massive differance, it handles a lot sharper, though a bit choppy round town, also have to miss the larger speed humps. did have 7.5j x 17 rims with 215/45 tyres & lesjofors sport springs. now have 7j x 17 rims with 215/45s and 50% uprated springs with 35mm drop.

Thanks Martin
The link Drawlings sent was for the Lesjofors.  Reasonable price.
Think I will go down the route of Lower - got to change the Springs anyway, so might as well  :)
Where did you get your uprated 35mm's from?

Cheers

Hello
Replying to your post.
Whatever floats your boat.
Personally given state of roads I use plus height & design of speed bumps -- it's a none starter.... RISERS would be more appropriate!!

had springs made to order (my own spec)at sporing coil, the can do what ever you want.

;D  Ok, i know its not everybodies taste - but I personally think a bit of lowering and and bigger wheels to fill the arches makes any car look much better 8).  And in some cases makes it handle much better too - but not in every general scenario that the car is originally built to cater for /withstand.

Having said that - the current suspension/and or springs are knack'd enough that I think a set of 30mm lower springs would actually raise the current height  :P

Thanks for all the input.

I lowered once, never again ;D

Sounds of exhausts being erased on speed humps and the kidney stone dislodging ride with the larger rims put me quite off the idea ;)

One other thing worth mentioning is that low profile tyres (below a 50) become very critical of tyre type and pressure, will tramline like hell and wear uneven if anything isn't perfect.

But as David said, whatever floats your boat...good luck ;)

Regards, Bruce.
