Title: Fuel tank sender
Post by Scorpius on Jan 28th, 2007, 3:04pm
Having pretty much gotten the heater working on my Cossie, the next job is to sort the fuel tank sender.

Symptoms are: Only shows 3/4 on the guage when full. Shows empty too soon and fuel computer gives up trying to calculate remaining fuel/range.

I have just dropped the fuel tank on my 2.3 (breaking for spares) and find myself with 2 options.
1: Remove the sender and fit it in the Cossie.
2: Just swap over the tanks to save opening up the locking ring.

The main problems here are:
1: How do i disconnect the fuel pipes at the tank?
2. Is the 2.3 fuel pump the same as the Cossie.

I am not sure how to get the locking ring off without the correct locking ring spanner and  i believe that the pump and level sensor are a unit anyway (although i imagine the sender can be separated from the assembly).

Cheers

Ian

I dealt with this on the Granada, as well as needing to put a new tank in.

My low reading turned out to be an high resistance on connection to the tank where the earth comes out of the loom. Once cleaned up it was fine. By the looks of it, water tends to sit up there on top of the tank in wet weather.

I managed to get the locking ring out by the use of a screwdriver plus hammer -tapping each side a little at a time. Watch out for the sealing ring under the cover, they can be rather brittle.

Thanks

Yes, that does ring a bell from my Granada days too. I had completely forgetten it. Looks like cleaning the multiplug is first up then.

Cheers
