Title: Xenon headlight bulbs
Post by Sewingkit on Feb 4th, 2007, 8:14pm
I have just bought a couple of Xenon gas headlamp bulbs for my cossie and just wondered if there os any special advice/information I need to be aware off?

My mate (who had the car before me) has just told me that they have to be set up carefully as to not dazzle others. Is this right or can I just stick them in so to speak?

Cheers ma booties!
Steve

Do you mean Xenon filament bulbs, which are just a straight swap for the halogens or the much more expensive Xenon discharge type?

The prior should just drop straight in with no adjustment necessary, but it would be wise to have the latter checked just to be sure.

Hi,

I'm not sure! They cost £7.99 each and have Xenon Gas technology written on the them.

So not sure. What do ya reckon!

That would be the 'Xenon filament' type. Nothing to worry about, just swap them as you would with any other bulb.

hey floppy, the 'blue' ones i bought from ebay are superb, also, i changed the sidelights for led xenon 'white' bulbs that have 4 leds in them, they're much better than the 'yellowish' standard filament bulbs. i've also changed the courtesy interior festoon lights for ones that have 15 xenon white leds in them, they really do make a difference, at night when i open the doors its like daylight in my scorp. i've also got some 6 led 501 bulbs to go in the puddle lights....

Of those I have seen on the road, I would tend to agree. I don't quite see how filtering out some of the light from the lamp can improve vision.

Actually you can scrape the blueness off them with a razor blade, it's just paint.

But it's a bit of a swizz to claim extra brightness while impeding the brightness by painting the  flipping bulb blue !

I'm sure there are genuine blue bulbs in the marketplace.

 Buyer Beware.

It's to change the temperature of the light...whether it works or not is another matter ;)

Good quality bulbs *non boy racer Vauxhall Corsa, non  blue tinted* make a hell of a difference over the originals. The quads on my car were useless, driving down dark roads it looked like only the sides were on. Stripped and cleaned them, put them back with a set of Philips VisionPlus bulbs...200% improvement and they give a bright white light without looking blue or blinding people like aftermarket xenons. Fitted a set of white LED sidelights, the jury's still out on them...not sure whether I like them or not, still have a slight blue/mauve tinge to my eye...

Not a boy racer myself but like them to look nice and white ::)
