Title: IACV advice
Post by jonnycab on Feb 10th, 2007, 3:16pm
I'm I the procese of cleaning the IACV (again), in the hope that it will stop playing up.

Just a quick question that needs answering though....
.....On top of the IACV is a round cover/cap. I have removed it & underneath is a small chamber filled with 4 round discs of padding. The chamber isn't separated from the valve body as the carb cleaner went right through.

Does anyone know what the chamber is for, & why it has padding in it ?

JC, The diagrams of the IACV are HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/iacvdata.htm). The top one is as fitted to the 2ltr and the lower one is ,I thought, as fitted to the 2.3. Remember I mentioned this in an earlier post.  Have you by any chance got the wrong one on yours?. ???. If you look at the drawings the second one has two screws to enable the solenoid to be separated from the valve and somewhere on the site is a coloured diagram of it. You cannot separate the solenoid on the first unit. Mike

I have the top one fitted, & as far as I know, it is the correct one. Surely the bottom one would have a different fitting  :).......the plot thickens  ;)

P.S...I realise that the valve & solenoid can't be separated....this was evident when I removed it  ;)
