Title: AUXILIARY BELTS, WHAT ONES DO I NEED
Post by dogma on Mar 7th, 2007, 1:16am
Hi all, I have a 2.9 12v V6 scorpio on a P plate. During some work under the bonnet I noticed that both belts are in serious need of replacement, both are cracked on the inside :o.  My question is, should you accept it, is how difficult are they to replace and does anyone know roughly how much and what the part numbers are :-*, many thanks, jim ???

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/drivebelt.htm

this should give you all the info, has part numbers and prices.
personally i would do it myself, well, i've just replaced the tensioner on my TD, next job is the crank pulley. obviously your engine layout is different to mine, but be prepared for scraped knuckles.......

some cracking on the belts is acceptable, provided its across the grooves. If you've got cracks that run along the grooves or appear to have small bits missing from grooves then you must change. I believe Ford recommend changing the belts after 60k.

Be prepared for a bit of a struggle depending how accessible they are. Let the tensioners off slowly.

The A/C Belt is really very easy but the main Aux Belt needs three hands to complete safely, due to the tension on the tensioner,  but otherwise a very easy DIY Job .

Hi all, went to three differant parts shops, wont even say what the original fords wanted lol :o :o, but the cheapest is 5 pound for the small belt and a whopping 25 for the larger of the two.  Picking them up in the morning so wish me luck lol.  I have a print out of the instructions that taliban kindly listed and A+E is not to far lol.  With regars to the cracks they do run accross but they are very shiney and so far from what iv found I dont think the car has had a great maintainance life so no harm in changing them, they are very loose too :-/. many thanks
jim :D

thats not too bad a price for the belts, considering they probably last 60k miles, mine only has one belt, a big one, 45 quid from ford.
if they're loose you might want to check the tensioners, i dont know what your model is like for them, but going through the history of mine its now on its forth.

to find servicing info etc on the site click on the words ford scorpio at the top left of the page, that'll take you to the home page, all the servicing links are listed on the left....
