Title: The Whole Back End?????
Post by Ellogg on Mar 12th, 2007, 7:46pm
Alright All (any help will be great)

Have loads of problems with my scorpio (what a motor), but dont want to get rid just yet.

Anyway here we go :-

1.When driving getting a really loud squeaking noise from the OSR wheel, when sationary grabbing the wheel and rocking the car the noise can be heard. from this side between the diff. and wheel. any ideas of cause.

2. When breaking the steering wheel shakes, but this is not all the time.

3. Had issues in the past about the height of the rear end of the car and had the springs changed. It made a differance but not much. Could the shocks require changing, also it is not as smooth as it use to be and I noticed the foam stops where worn and coming apart, between frame and arms at rear.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Ellogg :( :( :(

Hi there!

The only answer i can give here is to do with the judder under braking, this is normaly caused by a few things..

Firstly it could be a warped brake disc / sticking brake caliper.

Could be caused by a worn wheel bearing,

Or lastly it coudl be the compliance bushes (thats bearing in mind that im not sure if the scorps use them like the old sierras did!!)

Hope this helps

The really loud squealing noise sounds like the wheel bearing.

I'd get this checked out pretty quickly if I were you, because if it's that loud then it won't be long before it completely seizes & the bearings will grind up the hub (that's if they haven't already done so). Also it can be very dangerous  ;)

As for the steering shake when braking......let me guess......you don't notice it so much around town, but it gets worse when braking at high speed...ie, the faster you go, the more it shakes.....
Yep, that does sound as though the front discs are warped  ;)

The shocks don't  make any difference to ride height.

Sounds like the O/S  rear wheel bearing needs replaced.

Your   front  discs   need   replacing too.

The  rear rubber  bump  stops  do  rot  after  a  time, they're  easily replaced.

So, a little bit of work needing done  :-X

After changing my beyond knackerd rear shocks (i.e. you could compress them and they'd stay compressed) my car now sits about an inch or so higher than before.

Having replaced the springs i wouldn't have thought it'd it feel as smooth as before due to the new springs being stiffer than the old worn ones.

Matt
