Title: Superchips on a 24v?
Post by Magnusf on Mar 17th, 2007, 8:21pm
Hi there!

Haven't been around much lately...  ::)

Just a quick one, I've got a Scorpio 24v estate in my car collection since almost a year back. A guy is offering me a second hand tuning chip for the 24v engine. I believe is's a Superchips. Anyone tried them on the 24v? Is it worth having? I'll only take it if it's cheap enough of course, but is it worth the bother at all? Is it the same one for BOB and BOA engine?

Cheers!

/ Magnus

the cosworth should be fast enough, unless you have problems with it, mine is extremely fast and its all bog standard

hi there

different engine management between the two engines, so won't swap between the two.

The superchips website reckons on a 12bhp gain over standard.
However, in my opinion that would be in an ideal world where everthing else is absolutely spot on with the rest of the car.
In my experience (which is limited) superchips give more mid range grunt.
My 24v has plenty of that, so I would save my money unless it is realy cheap. :-/

Some time ago i was also interested in a chip. I have found a good alternative called OBD-tuning. It isn't necessarily to get the ECU out and solder a new eprom. They just plug an OBD lead flasher and re-write the eprom. The power increase was stated at 20 horse power, and the price was about 300 euros. Any way now i do have other thinks to mind about, like the rattling chains  :)

PS: also a very good cat back dual exhaust will bring a lot of runt to the cossie, because the stock one it's very restrictive.
