Title: Engine oil
Post by jonnycab on Mar 22nd, 2007, 11:39pm
I've always used Castrol GTX magnatec 5W/30 semi-synthetic in my 2.3.....& in my old 2.0, & the wifes 2.0 Mondeo.

But I'm thinking of changing...not that there is anything wrong with the GTX (it's great), but the price keeps creeping up, & it seems that the only place around here that sells it is Halfords  ::)

I was wondering whether to try the Ford 'Formula E' 5W/30.

I know it's not semi synthetic but it seems more readily available & tends to be a little cheaper than the GTX...

......& it comes in 5L cans, where as the GTX is 4.5L.....

....I always end up spending £8.99 for another litre of GTX to keep as a top up until the next oil change  ???

Does anyone else use the Ford stuff ?

P.S....while I was at Dovercourt Ford a few weeks ago, I'm sure I saw some Ford 'Formula E' 5W/30 semi- synthetic....or did I just misread it ?....
........they were flogging it off half price.....£12.99 a gallon  :o....should have got some  ::)

hi jc

i used formula e when i got a discount at ford. when that stopped (parts guy left company), i stopped because it was so expensive. this is, imo, the best oil for the 16v engines. next to that i use comma oil (http://www.commaoil.com/).

I am using Valvoline in both my scorps. They run wonderfully. It even reduced the rattling of my cossie by 10-15 seconds !!!

Cheers Scorpio-man....I'll give some of the Ford stuff a go then, as it's only £20.00 for 5 litres, from the local motor spares  :)

Thanks for the kind offer Matt, but I've already bought some oil, as I'm changing it tomorrow.

I went to the shop this morning with the intent of buying a gallon of Ford Formula E, but something else caught my eye.....

...... AC Delco, 5W/30, fully synthetic....a snip at £17.95 for 5 litres  :o

I'd been thinking of trying the fully synthetic stuff for a while now & at that price, it would be a crime not to  ;)

It's a small, independant shop owned by three guys who are always very helpful & knowledgable. They don't have sales or special offers...everything is priced as is.....

....If you are a regular customer....(me being a Scorp owner means I'm always in there), then you get discounts  ;)

The AC Delco is priced on the shelf at £17.95....but lets just say...I got it for a little less  ;)
