Title: Water needs flushing
Post by drawlings on Mar 31st, 2007, 5:53pm
Hey guys, need some help with flushing my water system.
My water has gone a redish colour and so I need to clean it.  Is there any products out there that are worth using to clean the water system?

Thanks

Dan

Plain water works for me - remove the thermostat and radiator top and bottom hoses and back flush both rad and engine for about half hour each using a hose pipe.  If it's previously had radweld or similar in it then you might need some proper radiator flushing additive to clear it out better but probably not.

Yes. I suggested Wynns, which is very good.

The important thing to remember when flushing, is that whatever you flush with, be sure to refill using the correct proportion of Anti-Freeze.

Anti-Freeze not only protects against frost. Far More Importantly, it keeps corrosion within the waterways at bay, and lubricates both the water pump, and keeps the thermosat clean. It needs to be in the cooling system 12 months a year.  ;)

And not to forget, it also raises the boiling point for the water  ;)
