a great big hello to all of you scorp owners. A few warning lights flash up my dash periodically. batt light, I have had it tested it is a good un. abs, Not tested it yet, air bag, Not bothered. and traction control... I know this works most the time and I am glad it did last night when I was racing a Porshe and an Omega. we ,'I'was doing a crazy mph between rounderbouts and who knows what speed round em (busy watching road) . the Omega was to slow and the Porshe Bottled it I susspect ! any way this wonderfull afternoon , I swung her into a bend'nothing to heavy' and the rear end stepped RIGHT out of line. :o. my Li'l Bro loved it and it was easy enough to correct. I just cast a thought back to last nighs joviality and a shudder went down my back... I would much rather I could predict wether or not she is gonna drift. is this a common problem ? does it sound costly ? cheers for reading my post. Big D. :D my tyers are almost new so that aint the cause.

this is a topic im intrested in as in not long ago write off my cossie ( see the time to cry post in the news section) yes it was a damp greesy road but the rears lit up and i never felt the tc trying to stop them...

don't quite know what to make of this post? personally i would take heed of any flashing warning lights and get my car sorted. remember coming into roundabouts the road is going to be worn more at this part of the road and this is also the area that vehicles like lorries and tractors and those cars that have oil leaks that are ignored tend to sit and deposit their fluids, it dosen't take much diesel or oil on a dry road let alone a wet one to throw you out. if you do not have much experience of cars mechanically it might be worth getting a mechanic to give it the onceover, good luck with it all and take it easy!! :)

you can always do what we used to do in the old mk1-2-3 capris. stick 4 paving slabs in the boot sticks to the road like glue. ;D

I appologise if my irresponsible typing offended anyone ! :( I am told from the previous Scorp owner that my Bus had a ull diagnostic done before I purchased it. nothing wrong ! His mate had the car all day and no lights flashed on the dash,' other lights come on intermatantly' . his reccomendation is it could be a rear wheel sensor ? does this ring any bells ! cheers folks.

hi there

you have to remember that this traction control is from the early '90! all there is to it is 2 rear wheel sensors and a throttle cable.

it works by pulling on the throttle pedal cable, so that's going to take some time to work (we're talking m/s here, but still some time). next, so i've been told, it can use the rear brakes. don't know if it can work one wheel at a time or not to bring it back on line, but i doubt it because of the age of the system. new systems use gyros to monitor the 'drift' angle. no way the scorpio has this.

if one of the rear wheel sensors were playing up then the abs light would come one as well. could be an issue with the TC motor behind the pass h/light. i'm not really sure as i don't have it. i have a right foot for that. ;D

now the finger wagging bit. @ ;) if you need the TC to correct your driving, then you're driving outwith your abilities. learn how to drive safely with some advanced driving or some track time.

I usually turn mine off when I'm driving quickly, its more fun ;D ;D ;D

kool guys, the abs light does come on at the same time as the control when they flash randomly. I have also given my Bus a little more respect as I intend on keeping her ! the fact that the system is old explains my drifting. I think my car skills with the rear end will be considerably better with gradual practice.

Gotta say none of my cars have had TC, can't really say I miss it. ABS is a different matter though...

TC is like anything else, it can only do so much. It can only limit the throttle to help the tyres regain grip, if you spin the rear end on a loose surface then no amount of TC is going to get it back inline until the tyres regain grip, got to let momentum do its thing and hope for the best ;). It's great in video games where if you turn ABS/TC on and spin the back out it magically gets the car back under control in less than a second...but you've got a 1500kg lump of metal being spun round and the TC takes time to react and if there's not enough difference between the speed of each wheel it won't even know there's a problem :).

check the connection under the rear seat.

this is where the abs has a weakness. first place to start. then the wheel sensors.
