Hey lads,

MOT was passed last week, woo. Just needed some sill welding and an ABS sensor (£100, ouch).

Had an advisory on the front discs though, so just a quick one - should I get the nice guys at FordpartsUk to get me some standard discs, or is there a better option? I have some Ferodo pads sat here ready to go on, but don't know whether to go for an uprated disc or not.

The discs are the same as the MK1/2 Mondeo, so any decent motor factor should have them in stock :)

I paid £16.00 per disc about a year ago :)

Oh, should have said, it's a 24v. Anyone know how much the Ford ones are? Don't mind paying a wee bit extra for OE parts. £16 a side is very cheap though!

I think 24V discs are the same as the rest of the range....as all have the same suspension & most Ultimas have the 12 spoke 16" alloys regardless of engine size :)

I got grooved disks for my 24v from eBay seller "mtec100" on the advice of a friend, former member and ex endurance motorbike racing mechanic.

Fitted Ferodo DS(?) pads too and boy, didn't it just stop a whole lot better after ;D (it had gone through 2 MOTs with the previous setup, I was just never happy with the stopping power compared to my Mk 3).

I can get from silly mph down to 30 way quicker than the speedo does }{. The grooved disks look better too ;)

ps. If you do go down this route, sort the back disks out too. The wife reported that it nearly swapped ends when she had to stop quickly once... :o

Cheers folks. Just got price for Ford ones from Fordpartsuk.com, £28.49 +vat, not bad for original. I did the rears last year, so they're essentially brand new too. Top!

£28.49 + VAT is a very good price,is that for the 24v discs which are bigger than the other Scorpios(278mm compared to 260mm)?

Discs for the 24 v are definitely larger than other models. Ford quoted me £89 incl Vat for a pair yesterday. I bought a pair from Bennets of Shrewsbury for £45 plus Vat. and fitted them yesterday.

Both Ford and Bennets confirmed that they are the same size and the same price as those fitted to a 2.5 Mondeo.

Pattern discs are still cool I reckon. If the Ford ones had been any dearer I wouldn't have bothered with them.

A full set of goodridge hoses may also be worth thinking about.
Got mine for about £60.00.
When accompanied with grooved and drilled front discs and EBC green stuff pads all round the difference is amazing.
Did mine over a year ago now and my nose is still sore from when I nutted the stearing wheel ;D

hi cossie al, i once fitted EBC grooved and drilled discs to my scorp but found them worse than stock from ford , no where near as good a stopping power . have just renewed my ford stock with unipart stuff and find the braking quality back to as good as new.every body to their own i suppose.(i think the EBC stuff had to be pretty hot to be effective, as i don,t drive like that that,s probably why i found them not very good)

Just want to add my 2ps worth here guys!

In my experience (its what i do all day guys lol) you are much much better off fitting DS2500 over EBC Greenstuff, the greenstuff are designed for smaller, lightweight cars such as Nova's and Fiestas!

If you are thinking of fitting EBC then look towards the redstuff as they better for the heavier cars..

If anyone needs any pads btw just let me know as i can supply them for decent prices.. i have contacts :P

be wary of ebc, well, if they're the same quality as the bike discs and pads they make; the green stuff bike pads for years have been known too eat discs, and the bike discs are sometimes warped from new, as we found out in a bike shop once :o

Found that my cossie had 260mm front discs fitted and the whole pad wasnt touching the disc surface.
Got a new pair of Lockheed Delphi's for a tenner on Ebay, but had to grind down the part of the pad that hadn't touched the smaller disc, to refit them until i get new pads.
I am still bedding them in gently, but braking is already awsome and can only get better.

Wow - that could have been really bad. Would it not have just stopped braking altogether when the unworn bits of pad touched each other in the middle?

As for EBC, i have had (varying) experience with them, i was at one point VERY close to the company and have used their pads on a few applications. The greenstuffs are a good pad, and are not the same material as the bike pads, the bike pads are a sintered material where as the green are a kevlar based. they are however no good on larger cars above 200bhp, they burn out.. 2 laps on silverstone on a sierra is my record .. for one set of greens lol.
