hi there

is that a panel filter or cone/induction filter?

i've got a cone/induction filter on my 2.3. makes a nice noise. ;)

you'll save on not having to replace it anymore.

made it from a cone from jetex (http://www.jetex.co.uk/index.php)

i have a K and N on mine,OK £38.00 was a bit pricey,but like Andrew says it never needs replacing,so that saves £13.00 a year....
have a noticed a difference :-/
but yes,it does sound a little better

From what I've heard they don't give much power wise, about 2% if you're lucky :-/. To get more you'd have to rework the inlet system, bored out throttle body, freeflow inlet manifold etc.

Far more power to be had from a freeflow de-catted exhaust ;)

chers Guys. I am thinking of making myself a Cat bypass pipe ! ' well two ' I believe it is a pannel filter scorp man, will it make any differance if its a cone one !

hi there

in theory, a cone would be better as you could direct more cold air at it. in reality though, they're really better for turbo cars. if you use a cone, you need one of these wee ones as well for the breather pipe.

the panel filter wouldn't give the noise facter, i don't think. :-/

can't comment on the panel filter for the Scorpio regarding noise, but on mine, yes it has made a difference to the noise, nothing too drastic but yes you can tell the difference...

hi there

i can only talk about the ones i have, which are of a high quality. :)

if you do change for panel filter, make sure you renew the breather sponge at the back of the housing. you can make one out of a kitchen scubber pad.

cheers heath, I would not change mine from a cone to pannel filter . From the site you put up , it looks to me like my filter would be a pannel one as standard ! I would also hope the seller would supply a breather sponge should One require one , or is this me expecting to much from suppliers ? I need to get my filter out  'n' view it and potentially return to this thread ! top man hth. I should immagine the breather sponge sinario will become considerably clearer once one has had an eyefull of the parts in quesion ! ;) ;)

hth, your my HERO . the breather sponge looked like it had never been changed ! now I have a scouring filter in it's place. my air filter looks new so I will give it a month and try get a great deal on a K'n'N ! top Banana  ;D ;D ps I pulled off the green bit of the pad hope this was correct .

hi dan

we normally use the green plastic bit! ;D the one i was talking about is about 6cmx3cm and about 1cm thick. doesn't really matter, though as it's just there to catch oil vapour.

just keep an eye on it. if it really oilly quickly, then change it for the more plasticy one as it will 'breath' better, i think.

hi there

fast ford magazine has done some tests on filters this month.

performance panel filters give about 3bhp.

cone/induction filters give about 10bhp.

they will also make it run slightly leaner.......unless the electric fuelling will self adjust?

As long as the MAF is working, it should self adjust.

after scorpio man put up the fine post regarding the power increase of cone induction filters. I have been considering Making the change ! would this affect my insurance ? ::) Would it be costly to do ?

hi there

you should let your insurance know of any changes to your car. filters, wheels, radio, spoiler, etc.

re the cost of the filters. i think i paid about £55 +delivery for the 2 filters.
