Title: Sunroof motor/switch Post by BrianT on Apr 24th, 2007, 11:45am My sunroof motor is broken, the plastic cog teeth worn away. I presume the plastic cog isn't replaceable, so I'll need a new motor. Found one for sale for a Sierra Ghia which looks identical to the Scorpio one. Does anyone know if they are the same item? |

Title: Re: Sunroof motor/switch Post by scorpio_man on Apr 24th, 2007, 11:48am hi there don't think they are (not sure), but the wiring/plug would be different as most of the scorpios have the global locking feature. hth |

Title: Re: Sunroof motor/switch Post by Tompion on Apr 24th, 2007, 2:09pm If you get stuck, Andy Brown posted the follwing on the mailing list in April last year ========================= Good morning all, Some time ago I commented about an American company which was developing a gear wheel for our sunroof motors. Well - They've done it! http://www.odometergears.com/subpages/fc.html If Eric R is listening in it may be worth adding this link to the list of suppliers on the website. I'm sure they were originally quoting 25 dollars - but even at 55 bucks that's only 10 percent of the cost of a replacement motor. They've also included some very basic instructions on synchronising the motor to the sunroof but if I were you, I'd have a look at: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/sunroofmtr.htm Far more in depth instructions. (And I'm not saying this just because I wrote it). Regards Andy B ======================= Dave |

Title: Re: Sunroof motor/switch Post by dannynic on Apr 24th, 2007, 9:31pm The ford sierra one is definitely NOT the same I know because I tried in mine. The gear wheels are metal in a sierra as well, and the wiring/bolt holes are completely different! ;) |

Title: Re: Sunroof motor/switch Post by harry.m1byt on Apr 26th, 2007, 10:29pm I think the teeth on the cog get stripped due to the roof binding. Might be worth checking and lubricating it, before fitting a new cog or a new motor complete. |

Title: Re: Sunroof motor/switch Post by BrianT on Apr 27th, 2007, 9:17am Thanks everyone. The roof was getting a bit 'draggy' in operation, so I think it will need lubing thoroughly. Interesting that someone's finally making a replacement cog. Why they didn't make one anyway beats me, and why is it in plastic?! Surely steel would be better. Ghia I've replied to you. Many thanks. |
