Hi guys, i am new to ford scorpio's and have just bought a 1995 scorpio ultima 2.0i auto, i have had a lot of exspensive problems which i have solved, but now when i put the indicators on, either left or right they come on like hazard lights, occasionally they work normally, i have changed the switch and the relay, but no difference. i would really apreciate some advice. hi andy,

first off check the fuse boxes for dampness,

seconds, does the car have any loom damage behind the dash that u know of?

what problems have you had sorted,has the multi plug to the fuse box been off and not fitted back correctly.

no loom damage that i know of, fuse box dry and multiplug not been disconnected, battery cover in place, the other probs i had were not to do with electrics i had to get a new steering rack, new battery and new speedo sender unit, at a grand total of nearly £500, funny enough the indicators have been working fine all day, it really doesnt make sense. Try replacing the switch unit (which contains indicator stalk and hazard button) with one from a breaker.

indicators not working all day yesterday, came on like hazards, Darren i have changed the switch twice, and the relay, no change!! begining to think i'll take a sledge hammer to the d**n car :'(

You haven't by any chance mistakenly replaced the flasher relay with a Hazard relay have you? If it's a hazard relay then it WILL flash all the indicators.

Only a thought. ;)

Does it have a tow bar?
If not any sign of it having had one in the past. If so maybe dodgy connections in the boot somewhere.

i had similar but not the same. sometimes the hazards came on for no apparent reason. turning on the indicators "overrode" this, and returned the car to normal. turned out to be the PCM module above the ecu, had got wet and doing strange things (the windows also stopped working)

not the same, but proves a link to the indicators/hazards via the PCM, so worth bearing in mind.....

Scorpius, sorry bud, that shudnt have happened, i'll change mine as i'm a newbie," scorpius new" any objections? I havnt changed relay 4 wrong one cos i have several stalks off previous granadas with relays still in place. My scorp has got a towbar i will check this possibility. I'll check the pcm but what does it look like and where is it located, I've had nine older shape scorpio's and never had any probs, begining to wish i'd stuk with them, although these scorpio's handle so much better! :'(

The PCM is located under the passenger side dash & it is a silver box in a black metal casing which is riveted in place.

You'll have to remove the glove box to get access to it & then drill out the rivets. Also the multiplug is held in by a 10mm bolt :)

hmmm, i think the silver box is the ECU, the PCM is the black box that sits above it, with three wiring plugs in it, it just pulls out by releasing a couple of retaining tabs at the sides, no rivets to drill like the ECU....

Thanks for that scorpio_man. I think you're right tintin, I was told the same thing by my mate that the ecu is riveted in place, still hav'nt figured the problem out yet, this morning the indicators worked fine, then about an hour later they came on as hazards :-[

The CCM is the alarm module which is above the ECU, I can see how the alarm module could possibly effect my indicators but cant really see how the ECU has anything to do with it ??? Anyone got a spare alarm module, and does anyone think i should change the ECU aswell, incase its a related problem?

Yep, dont think the ECU would affect it, the CCM was an option, as i know it can do funny things to the indicators when it goes wrong. Mine got wet, so my spare is now in my car, im afraid.....

Thanx snoopy, but i'd already changed it to scorpius new, cos there was already a scorpius but with a capital "S" so you changed it back to what it was originally, never mind, i'll change it again!

Still havent solved the problem, will just carry on driving without using indicators, I know this annoys the hell out of most people, me included but what can you do!! Guess I'll have to get an auto electrician out once I find another job, as have just lost mine, such is life!! >:(

Finally solved it, dissconnected the wiring totally for the towbar and reconnected, been working for two days as they should now. Thanx guys for all your much appreciated help ;D ;D
