Title: Cruise Control Post by ColinE on May 29th, 2007, 8:07am Hi Andrew I ask the question recently, as I have intermitant cruise control, someone posted, try kicking the brake pedal, to see if it then works, tried that, it seems to work each time I do this, so it appears to be something to do with the pedal switch, any Ideas, could it just want lubing, or maybe the contacts cleaned, are these the same on all Scorpios, would it be worth trying a second hand switch. Thanks Colin |

Title: Re: Cruise Control Post by ColinE on May 29th, 2007, 5:46pm Hi Jonnycab Just taken the switch out of the car, the plunger is spring loaded to keep the plunger out, this seems ok, I have lubed the stem of the plunger with a small amount of silicon grease, tried a meter across the contacts on the switch, they make ok when pressed, also cleaned the plug contacts on the switch Will try for a run tomorrow to see if its done ant good. Thanks for the reply Colin |

Title: Re: Cruise Control Post by Dave2302 on May 29th, 2007, 6:16pm Hi Colin, We see a lot of this on cars nowadays as the brake switches can cause all sorts of problems as transmission computers now have an input from them ! Anyway....sometimes these brake switches are just too darn sensitive and a little adjustment can help. What I mean is .... Its designed to switch when you apply the brakes, but sometimes they are fitted / adjusted so if you breath on the brake pedal they will switch, so there may well be nothing wrong with your switch. I cant remember if the Scorpio ones are "officially adjustable" if you see what I mean, if not its usually a matter of some gentle persuasion on the bracket to make it less sensitive. ;) HTH Dave |

Title: Re: Cruise Control Post by jonnycab on May 30th, 2007, 1:07am Hi Colin....not sure if you know, but the plunger has notches on it, to keep it out at different lengths, that's why I suggested pulling it all the way out. If you haven't already done so, pull the plunger quite hard & it should come out all the way (about 2 inches), then put it back in the car & let the pedal set the right length :) Sorry if I've told you something you already know, but it was unclear whether or not you had pulled the plunger out to it's limit ;) |

Title: Re: Cruise Control Post by ColinE on May 30th, 2007, 10:43am Hi All Have taken the car for a short test run this morning, the cruise control worked every time, normally when I have taken it out of cruise with the brake pedal it will not fire up again, I took it out 3-4 times, then it reset as it should, lets hope thats the end of this problem, as I have a long run to France very soon, a good deal of motorway.
