Title: Fuel pressure gauge
Post by TiberiuS on Jun 5th, 2007, 6:41pm
Guys, I need a gauge to test fuel rail pressure. Looked on Screwfix but they only have a compression gauge. There is a gauge in the catologue that does oil and water to 60psi but that's got a 15mm push fit connector for mains water pipework.

Anywhere in the UK where I can get a decent one for a decent price? Do Halfords do them and are they any good?

My cat is throwing a mega tantrum and I need to find out why ::)

Cheers ;)

Regards, Bruce.

Knowing that you're good with things mechanical Bruce, try this maybe.

Hi SD, what I'm looking for is the pressure gauge itself. But yes, I'll need to rig a tee up to the rail as there's no test nipple like there was on the DOHC Scorpio.

bruce,

we use loads of little pressure guages at work, 0 - 10 bar if i remember correctly for air supply systems, but they can be used on liduids to, 1/4 inch fitting, if thats any good im sure i can pocket one on the sly  ;)

How much are you asking my good man ;D

What I need is a gauge with either an NPT or 1/8" BSP fitting, so it can go into the tee that I need to fit onto the M14 x 1.5 thread on the fuel rail. I'm looking at the 'TP7' tee on this (http://www.speedograph-richfield.com/html/oil_pipe_lines.html) page.

Hoping it'll fit right and I won't be pressure washing my nice, clean hot engine with unleaded :o

Regards, Bruce ;)

we buy them in bulk, would prob work out to a few pence each  :-/, i know the thread on the back of them is 1/4 but i'll have a rummage round the stores, there should be a reducer lyeing about  ;D

heya

right, got the guage, 0 - 10 bar, also has a psi scale on it too, size wise its arround 30mm ish diameter

how much space have you got? reason i ask is because the guage has a 1/4 thread so ive had to reduce it to 1/8. however i havent got a 'simple' 1/4 to 1/8 reducer so ive had to make summat up to do it, it's about an inch and a half long (no including guage) and all together its a bit 'bulky'. if it doesnt fit, i can get a bit of copper pipe and some more fittings to give you something to play with

Matt ;D

Aye Matt, sorry mate - didn't see the post :-[

Plenty of room under there, the idea would be to connect it to some of the hose they sell on the site I linked to so that I can pin it to the wiper and see it from the thingypit. So no probs about the reducer ;)

So, basically there'd be the tee coming from the fuel rail next to the regulator with the pipe coming off of it and the gauge screwed onto the other end of the hose outside the bay.

Cheers mate, it's much appreciated, drop me a PM and let me know what you want and I'll send over some funds (PayPal ok?).

Regards, Bruce.

Aye Matt, cheers for the offer of help mate but I've ordered a new pump, need this sorted asap ::). Tried to get a gauge today, nobody knows what I'm after...the last place sent me to Halfords hahaha ;D

Even if I get one off of eBay, by the time I get it and the connectors, a new pump is only £65, not really much more and the pump is the only part of the fuel system I haven't changed...

Regards, Bruce :).

Could've been worse, at least you only have to buy the pump motor, not the flange, pickup pipes etc. Best part will be pulling the hoses from up behind the diff, tank's in the boot with this one :-/

I don't care, I love it really }{

I'll get the Paypal sorted :)
