Title: Heated Seat Upgrade
Post by DJWerkz on Jun 20th, 2007, 8:41am
I have a non-heated seat optioned car but have been offered an interior with heated front seats.

Apart from the obvious changes such as swapping the bezel around the handbrake for the switches, what will I need in the way of the loom?

I have had my centre section and dash out in the past and I do not recall seeing any spare cabling/connections.  Anyone know how and what the switches connect up to?

There was a similar thread about a month ago to do with wiring in electric/heated seats where only manual ones were fitted.  Trying looking back through posts as it was covered in some detail.

Have a look at THIS. (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Advice;action=display;num=1178658879;start=5#5). May be this is what Darren is thinking of.

If you get Heated seats then you also need the additional wiring loom that goes into the centre consul. THAT has the wiring for the switches and relay and replaces the loom you have ATM from just infront of the passenger seat. It just plugs in and replaces it. Makes the job a whole lot easier. You do need to remove the centre consul to do it but with the seats OUT that is very easy.

One caveat - the heated seat relay under the centre console is switched when the ignition is at position I.  My car didn't have a wire for this function on the multiplug under the passenger seat, however, it did have one which was live with ignition at position II.  I just moved this wire to the correct position on one of the plugs so now the relay is on whenever the ignition is.

Can you explain what you meant by this?  Not really clear on which wire you moved and to which position on what plug?!!
Thanks.

There may not be the wire present in the multiplug under the carpet to switch the relay on.  If there isn't you can either run a new wire to the back of the radio (it doesn't draw much current), or use one of the existing but unused wires in the multiplug.  This is the method I used but obviously those wires are in the wrong 'hole' in the connector as they aren't designed to power this relay - you'll need to switch it to the corresponding hole on the centre console loom for it to work.
