Title: air lock ?
Post by dan_the_man on Jun 22nd, 2007, 12:46am
good day fellow folk of the scorp. I've had a little issue of the heater not working for a while 'I know it is summer' . I would like to get to the bottom of the issue though and was thinking of replacing the matrix. ' thermostat and rad flush done ! I took her to see the gent Who I purchased her from as He said he would love to see her again and is bidding on another as I type.  he said ' The matrix is Fine, what you need to do is push some clear washer hose down the rad overflow and wait till she overflows a little .' I've heard something simelar mentioned. possibly at harewood house. and was wondering if there is something on the site about it ? I've had a good look and done a search or three, read some great stuff just not related to my drama !

Hi Dan, I think I mentioned this to your personal mechanic!!. Its known as the 'Johnnycab ' method and is referred to Here (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Problems;action=display;num=1170006021;start=1#1) in this thread. Regards to you both, Mike.

If you've flushed the matrix backwards & forwards...& my method (I'm humbled  ;D) still doesn't cure the problem, then the matrix may well be blocked.

Did the seller say that the matrix was replaced, or say that it was working fine when you bought it ?....because 'working fine' in these cars (lets face it...they're getting old) means nothing & it could go at any time  ;)

the seller said to use 'jonnycab' method twice a year to sort the problem. He's just got himself another cossy estate !
I have used all your advice and am very gratefull for it, THANK'S. I de-bubbled it up and down hill, no more bubbles. I thought of trying it on the pipe that comes from the rad to the overflow tank ! my heater is much much better, not perfect .

On a previous posting, someone mentioned using "radiator flush" in the matrix. Gonna try it myself when i get the time.

I left the flush in for a week, the package suggested much less time. I know it is corrosive stuff so I made sure the mechanic put plenty of anti freeze in once the flush was complete. TRY the Jonnycab method first ! ;)

I have previously flushed and back flushed the matrix with a hose. It worked and i had some heat for around 3 weeks and then it went cold again. Asuming no air locks, but OK, will try that first.
