Blimey, thats alot of dough....removed one from a scrappy the other day for a quid.....not that I really needed it, but after your saga Alastair, I thought....you never know when you may need a spare one  ;)

Hi JC
It does seem a lot for what it is but after the last two months to have the car running again made it well worth it. If you recall I did end up with a new Idle control valve from the FMD which they did not charge for.
My theory with replacing parts is that once you have found what the faulty part is i.e crankshaft or camshaft sensor then you return the borrowed part and replace with new. Why put an unknown part which is probably the same age on to the car.
This has worked well during the ongoing restoration of my SE5A Scimitar and the club has a stock of proven spares for the use of all.
Due to the comings and goings of myself and Stuart we are developing a stock of cleaned, restored and proven electrical bits for the 2.3

Sorry Alastair, I didn't mean to imply that you were ripped off  :)

It doesn't surprise me that they are that price from Ford, but the guy in the breakers didn't have a clue what it was, so he said "give us a quid mate"  :)

My year long intermittent pinking problem cost me a lot of time & money....replacing this sensor, replacing that sensor, throttle, injectors, EGR, being advised that the timing chain was half a cog off & alot other stuff.

In the end, it turned out to be a dodgy cam shaft position sensor, which if I'd replaced in the first place, would have only cost me £16 from FMD, but got one for a quid in the breakers....funny really, anything small & odd looking in the local scrappy seems to be a quid  ;)

So I probably spent more than you & took alot more advice for something, that was in the end, a very simple, but most unlikely fix  :)

But all the advice & suggestions were good & I now have a Scorp that is running like it just came out the factory  ;D
