hi there

i've just bought a pair of these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-SIERRA-NEW-FLAT-TRICO-WIPER-BLADES-20-20_W0QQitemZ260116461457QQihZ016QQcategoryZ21654QQcmdZViewItem)'flat' wiper blades that you see on newer cars.
i normally only use bosch blades.
i'll report back if they're any good or not.

around town they work very well. nice and quiet. will try them on the motorway tonight. so far so good.

glad you bought some lol, i was toying with the idea of getting some myself, having experienced some fitted to a works audi (there fitted as standard to them)

yes, they seem fine around town. won't get to try them on the motorway until tomorrow, but i have high hopes for them.

i hate using wiper while i'm driving, but i don't like the look of the stuff you put on the glass to keep it clear..ish. :( so time will tell.

im more interested in how long they last bth, normal wipers are good for 3 or 4 months (well i change them depending on how much rain, etc... we've had),

they also look a lot better, nice and sleek

i'm the same. i normally change at about 6 months, just after winter, just before winter.

Lol, you're joking - I never changed them on the Scorp in nearly 3 years of ownership, they worked great ::)

They get ripped every year on the Mondy, just in time to fail the MOT...I don't go there, just get it replaced :-/

Running a pair on the other (not Scorpio) V6, well impressed with them. Been on about a month now and would definitely consider using them on the Scorpio. look a lot better as well ;D

Hi Andrew
I run a couple of old MGs one from 1954, as the wiper on these car are iffy we always carry RAIN-X.
I had never heard of it, went on a rally through europe, my wipers packed up in a thunder storm, as I was new to T types I had never seen or heard of it, all the other guys were carrying it, its simple to use takes no time to apply, I did the Scorpio before leaving for France, it last well until you have to use the wipers, but you can alway redo it en route.
Hope this maybe of interest.

try the mer 'rain away', i've found it to be miles better than rain x and using the wipers doesnt wipe it off too quickly......

well the new flat type blades weren't that good. :(

so, i've changed them for ones from aldi (£4). these are very good (they had to be last night ;D).

not tried them on the motorway, but so far, so good.

Mine last for many years. I put a new pair on last year, simply because the ones fitted were of unknown vintage and were squealing. The long life is in part due to the Scorp not doing much mileage (4k), but I think in the main due to it being garaged and out of the weather when not being driven. It is the UV which kills them as much as the actual wear.

My newly fitted blades also squealed, but the soon settled in and now are silent - Aldi/Lidl special offers.

iirc, the ford ones have a uv dot on them. when it changes colour, that's when you replace them.

I tried the flat ones on the Volvo and a mate of mine had them on his golf. Initially they seemed okay but we both found that they missed bits on the windscreen. I opted for the normal style Champion ones for the Scorpio and they were clearing the screen brilliantly on Thursday when coming down the motorway in torrential rain.
I've found over the years that the cheaper blades can sometimes be a bit too hard and judder badly so I've always stuck with Champion.

As an aside, I bought a new blade for the rear but it doesn't fit :( What do other people use on the back, does it have to be a Ford one?

The front ones fitted the rear of the Granada Hatch, so I would think the fitting will be a standard for the Scorp - just a shorter length for the estate(?)

hi there

the rear (estate) wiper blade is a different type. it doesn't have a centre pin. you need to get it from ford. costs under £20 (can't remember who much i paid), but lasts years (i'm on my 2nd one from late '02).

I'm using flat blades also. Highly recommended. Had the same pair for over a year now and still going strong. Normal blades only seemed to last approximately 3-4 months including the Ford ones.

Mine are genuine Vauxhall flat blades, ones for the Vectra B, unfortunately they only measure in at only 19" but you can't tell the difference. Have never tried the aftermarket versions.
