can somebody tell me if ordering new ones is simple enough i.e i tell the factor the make and model of my car and hey presto im sorted and what sort of prices should i be paying for these items....please note that any help i get from here is VERY gratefully received

Front or rear?
I got mine from my local motor factors with no probs other than the nut being the wrong one with one of the bearings, I paid about £50 for both front ones. Cant remember what the back ones cost.
The guys ordered in another one with the correct nut and let me keap the first one so its here if you want it for a nominal fee ;)
However it would mean you would have to get the nylock nut or use thread lock. Personally I would get another nut.

its front ones i need! the mechanic says that one is completely goosed and the other one is not quite as bad....the car sounds terrible as is and i am in 2 minds as to getting one done and trading the car in for something else as i dont have the time or the know how for older vehicles or just get both done and keep hold of the scorpio for a while yet....but the wife hates it >:(

You should be able get two sets of front wheel bearings for under £100
Try E-bay.

The bearings require to be pushed in/out , so it's beyond most home DIY ers, best to get a garage to do it .

[] I did them myself but it was not easy even with an extensive tool kit and my own 3.5 tonne press.
When I did them I said never again, I would also advise paying a garage.

in the garage being done as i type...then the car has to go im afraid...anyone looking for a Scorpio at all :D
