Title: Weird Steering
Post by mindofitsown on Jul 10th, 2007, 1:59pm
Has anyone had this same problem? Around town driving is fine but going along motorways the steering response is jerky on left hand bends. As you enter a shallow left hand bend, the steering seems not to respond too well and then suddenly kicks in causing the car to lurch sideways as if a sudden strong gust of wind caught it from the side. The problem is gradually getting worse and getting pretty hairy at times.
The wishbones were replaced back in March (which helped a tiny bit) and I've checked all the other suspension bits. Also the inner and outer track rod ball joints have been checked when the tracking was re-done and all are ok. I suspect the rack is faulty yet there is no sign of fluid leakage into the rubber boots. I would hate to spend a fortune on a new rack only to find its not the problem. Any ideas anyone?

When you had new wishbones did you replace the rear bushes ?

Also have you checked the droplinks & anti-roll bar bushes ?  :)

If it's a cossie, could it have anything to do with the speed sensitive rack? (Wild guess, as I don't know anything about how that function actually works, just knowing that it does *something* when getting up to speed)

Sounds daft,  but I wonder if they final  tightened  up  the  wishbone  bolts  ?
