Also, is it a know fault, or am I just unlucky, the the Exhaust Manifold cracks ? TIA Andy |

Title: Re: Hi I new here, bit of help needed. Post by jg on Jul 12th, 2007, 2:36pm scorpio_man, thanks for the quick replay. I have found a manifold, £57 all in P&P, just wondered if it was a common fault with Scorpios. As for the wiring loom, Ford quoted me £500 which I thought was a BIT excessive I have cut the bad wiring out and replaced with good and same colour, just as a temp measure, but if I could find somewhere to buy the plugs, pt # 89FG 14A464 HBA I could make up new looms at a fraction of this, I have found a site that sell these plugs, BUT, at a minimum. cost of $300, not sure how many plugs you get for that? Dame good cars these Scorpio's mine is a Ghia, with full leather and wall-nut effect dash. Had to replace both ARB drop links at a cost of £32, SH exhaust Manifold, not sure if the AC works. Did 'ALL' Scorpios come with Alloy wheels as mine has steels with 185's on the front and 195 on the rears ??? She has 164k on the clock, I will post pictures later once I have given her a 'T' cut & coat of wax, the colour is a bit iffy, not sure what it is, some one said Pepper Red, but it is more like Burgundy. Anywhy, thanks for you time. Andy |

Title: Re: Hi I new here, bit of help needed. Post by TiberiuS on Jul 12th, 2007, 3:49pm Hi. No fear about the loom, most DOHC Scorpios suffered, including mine: http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l89/TiberiuS1250/Loom1.jpg http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l89/TiberiuS1250/Loom2.jpg I don't think yours could be any worse than mine, I only went to change the plugs and found it in that condition, ended up having the car off road for a fortnight while I made a new top loom. Inlet manifold is known to crack, never heard of the exhaust manifold cracking though. Regards, Bruce. |

Title: Re: Hi I new here, bit of help needed. Post by petehull on Jul 12th, 2007, 5:16pm welcome friend.... :D My exhaust manifold is cracked, ??? I have got a replacement to fit sometime, :D I haven't high prioritised it cos it doesn't seem to be having any adverse effect, ::) it is a common problem apparently, due to expansion and contraction etc. ??? hth Pete |

Title: Re: Hi I new here, bit of help needed. Post by scorpio_man on Jul 12th, 2007, 5:27pm hi there you should get your manifold changed sooner than later as it can affect your fueling. you could be running a bit lean. :-/ hth |

As you made your own, where did you get the sockets, pt # 89FG 14A464 HBA ? I would love to know, also how much where they? |

Title: Re: Hi I new here, bit of help needed. Post by TiberiuS on Jul 12th, 2007, 8:53pm Hi. Couldn't get the sockets, although I now have a few good spares sourced off newer cars. I just cut the wires about 10mm from the plug, clean the strands with a glassfibre pencil and solder my new (silicone) wires on followed by a couple of layers of self adhesive heat shrink tubing...followed by some heat resistant loom braid followed by some more tubing to secure the braid to the plug body. the original plugs do come apart but far too risky with them being brittle with age. Picture of my idea: http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l89/TiberiuS1250/Sv400818.jpg Plugs are apparently unavailable, but as other makes than Ford use them there might be a source turn up somewhere. Guys, I thought it was just the inlets on the 2.3...thought cracked exhaust headers was Jag territory :-/ |

Title: Re: Hi I new here, bit of help needed. Post by jg on Jul 12th, 2007, 9:31pm Nice work, nearly as good a mine ::) ;D You can get the sockets from here http://www.4starelectronics.com/catalog3/0179/0179-52.html BUT, Please note that we have a $300.00 min order per line item. |

Post by jonnycab on Jul 13th, 2007, 1:17am Half an hour in the breakers yard on a Saturday afternoon can produce the same results.....these are commonly used connectors (sockets) on alot of Fords, in alot of places..... ....temp guage sender, camshaft & crankshaft sensors & windscreen washer pump (spring to mind) ...& that's just on the Scorp (2.0 & 2.3) :) |

Title: Re: Hi I new here, bit of help needed. Post by jg on Jul 13th, 2007, 9:33am yes, I know that, SAAB use the same type as well, but I have but agree TiberiuS re they come apart but very risky. And if I was to start making new looms, I would need new plugs. TiberiuS has done a very grand job making his. |
