Title: water tempture sensor? Post by jg on Jul 13th, 2007, 4:16pm I seems I have a faulty Temp sensor, the one that fits in the head and looks a Bu44er to remove. She's a 2.3 16v DOHC. Unit Scorpio Question is, what other Ford has the same temp sensor unit and does anybody have a part number? Also, How do you get the dam thing out ? Oh, how much would a new one cost ? TIA |

Title: Re: water tempture sensor? Post by petehull on Jul 13th, 2007, 4:33pm On the 2.3 there are 2 temp sensors on the thermostat housing, the one nearest the radiator is to feed the dashboard guage and the big one behind feeds to the ecu and helps to control the fans. I recently changed mine and it cost me about £19 from fordpartsuk.com. I think it is a 16mm spanner to remove it but {} don't be to hard refitting as the housing is plastic and is prone to cracking. Thanks for that, when I short out the sensor on the thermostat housing, the gauge goes straight into the RED, I have not seen or heard the Fans come on, on a 10mil trip the Temp gauge stayed at 7 o'clock, Blue. Now, is there a way of testing these sensors ? to prove there bad, or good? TIA, and thanks |

Title: Re: water tempture sensor? Post by jonnycab on Jul 15th, 2007, 12:04am If you decide to remove either the ECT or temp guage sensor, then make sure you spray plenty of penetrating oil on them & leave the oil to work it's way in. Reason being is, if the sensors have never been changed, then they will be very tight & too much force may actually dis-lodge the nut from the T-stat housing..... ...If this happens, then you've got problems.... ;) May be an idea to try to tighten the sensor a tad, just enough to break the thread seal...then try to undo the sensor :) |
