Received this morning from Donnelly - one brand new replacement rear veiw mirror !
Is spite of the fact that the car is 10+ years old and I am not the original owner, they honoured the lifetime guarantee. Took a few weeks from initial contact and filling in a claim warranty form - all done via e-mail I might add - till the replacement arrived but well worth doing.
Don't bother with 2nd hand mirrors from ebay at £50+, just get in touch with the manufacturer and a brand spanking new one should find its way to you.

Unfortunately the mirror has gone cloudy / misty and has started to leak.

Please can you assist with a replacement.

I was e-mailed a warranty claim form which I duly completed and returned together with some digital pictures of the faulty mirror. About 8 weeks from initial contact to receiving replacement mirror. Very good communications from Dani.

I have just received notification that the replacement is in the post, delivery 3-5 days. They also ask that I return the faulty one - return postage slip supposedly included the package when it arrives.

Be aware that the package will be handled by DHL and you will probably have to pay about £18 in import duties / VAT  :o >:( :( :'( :-/
Don't think there is any way out of that but at least it is cheaper than buying a brand new one.

What! Is this true?

You are talking about the original Ford Scorpio auto-dipping rear view  mirrors? The ones
that came with the car? I have a misty one, it's not leaking for thank goodness, but 2/3
of it is dark and of course it's not working.

I will be doing this when I have £18 to spare for the importduty.

Are you sure about the import duty ?

I've bought  loads of  mail order bits for my Vic from the US   ( including a Auto Dip Donnelly  Mirror )   and  haven't  paid  one penny import  Duty.

Guys,
Package was from the USA and DHL always pay the import duties up front and then invoice the recipient of the package.
They send you a return label as for some unknown reason the want the faulty mirror back. Maybe to dispose of the nasty goo inside correctly ???

next big question,,,,, are they really that easy to remove without damaging the screen? someone says dont use the ford removal technique but use the one as described on this site , can someone please clarify,,,,,thanks

The MIrror cmes off the windscreen FORWRDS as described in the site directions NOT as ford state BACKWARDS.... Be carefull it is possible to crack the windscreen if you pull too hard on it... several members will verify that.. I use a small rubber mallet to tap it to loosen it from its mount once the seal is broken it slides off really easily ...FORWARDS

Some chance! Pig more likely to fly!!!!
Although he does state it is a Probono goodwill gesture, I don't care as long it gets me a new mirror.!!

Glad it works for the Scorpio as well, I wasn't 100% sure.

I get stuff imported, depends how the fit takes HMR Customs. Sometimes the packages get through, sometimes they get opened and you get a nice big charge before you can pick it up from the sorting office. Best one was a couple of years back, cost me £15 for 3 CDs from Canada...cost more for the duty than the CDs.

But there is a way around it, if you have a *friend* who can declare it as a gift when they send it ;)

The advice on the site is correct. Simply tap or pull the unit sharply downwards keeping it in line with the slope of the screen.

Mind you, mine came out easily DOWNWARDS - I did not tap it though, but very gently
wiggled it and pushed it down - definately IN LINE with the slope of the screen as Simmo says.

The screen breaks really easily, so be gentle.

Had to give this a go, Just sent an email. I really hope this works, I'm fed up of trying to see out of a misty little oval in the centre of the mirror. :'(

I don't think import duty would be payable on a replacment for a faulty unit if Magna were to explain that on the customs note.

Mine arrived last week via FedEx and no duty was payable.

From past experience of bought items on which duty would normally be payable, sometimes they charge it sometimes they don't. I get away with it about 2/3rds the time free.
