Title: Split in manifold, yet another prob Post by dogma on Jul 23rd, 2007, 6:21pm Hi all, yet another problem and need some advice. Went out today for about an hour, on returning home i noticed steam coming from under bonnet, i found water sparying from a 2 inch crack in the manifold, directly above the housing for the thermostat. I rushed up the road, altho i jumped a bit to quick and bought a manifold from the engine of a 2.0, mines a 2.3. please tell me they are the same before my marrage is over sob sob many many thanks jim |

Title: Re: Split in manifold, yet another prob Post by RichardMS on Jul 23rd, 2007, 7:48pm If you can get one for a 2.3 then that would be the easiest, but these are like rocking horse poo, I had to get one from FMD at around £230 from what I remember. You can use the 2.0 16V one but you need all the bits from and including the air filter box, This has been done by a member but can't remember who to point you in the right direction :-[ I expect someone will give some more info soon though ;) |

Title: Re: Split in manifold, yet another prob Post by Matt on Jul 23rd, 2007, 8:03pm that would be me! yes the 2.0 intake will fit, but it doesnt have the same or as many connection for the vacumme pipes. the break servo pipe is a pain to, as its not shaped to fit the manifold from memory the cooling system also runs through it on the side, would need to check the car its a pig of a job but can be done! |

Title: Re: Split in manifold, yet another prob Post by Tompion on Jul 23rd, 2007, 10:25pm Don't think I'd risk paying that for a second hand one, especially if it's the one with £17.75 postage. I'd get a quote from http://www.fordpartsuk.com/ first (plus gaskets). Dave |

Title: Re: Split in manifold, yet another prob Post by jonnycab on Jul 24th, 2007, 9:14am Hi Jim...it never rains it always pours ::) Before you spend out the cash for another one, you could try repairing it. If the split is a nice straight one then some quick steel applied to right places should give it a strong repair (my repaired one has now held for 10K miles). You'll have to repair it inside & out to get the strongest repair, & it can be done whilst still on the car. Just take your time in doing it, to make sure it's a good & proper job :) A tip...you won't be able to see the crack inside, so take a few pictures of it so you can see it properly on your computer. Everytime you put a bit of quick steel on it then take another picture to check if the crack is sealed. 2 or 3 thin layers inside & out should do the job. Also make sure you clean the surfaces well with some meths etc & roughen up the surfaces with some coarse sandpaper.....gives the quik steel a better holding ;) Good luck :) P.S....you could also try the last method on this post... http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Problems;action=display;num=1184775284 |
