Title: Cosworth Gearbox replacement advice Post by Sewingkit on Aug 3rd, 2007, 8:07pm Hi Everyone, Quick question? I'm "relatively" new to car ownwership but 37 and have worked in a garage for 2 years on the past so not completely dumb when it comes to them. How difficult is it to replace the broken gearbox on my Cosworth? Thank you Steve |

Title: Re: Cosworth Gearbox replacement advice Post by pappa on Aug 7th, 2007, 9:43pm Only "annoying" thing that comes to my mind is the torque converter nuts. You have to remove starter motor first, then there's a little rubber "blade" in the upper side of the starter motor hole, take it out and place it somewhere where you can find it again (I know what I'm talking about, I lost mine ;D ). Then you turn the engine and see those four nuts in the flywheel. They're 13mm (at least in Finland) and not very tight. Also the bolts behind the engine, between the engine and the firewall, can be challenging to remove. There's not too much extra space there. Very good to follow the instructions found on this site. It's easy, but takes some time. What's it with the gearbox anyway? I'm not doubting that it's broken, but just curious. |
