Title: scorpio prices?
Post by scruffygyt on Aug 29th, 2007, 7:40pm
hi all, i have a question re-scorpio prices, a couple of saturdays ago i went to chelmsford car auctions with an open mind as to what i wanted, i ended up coming home with a 2.9 24v ultima its a 98 s reg aubergine 6 mths mot 93,000 with 9 service stamps v good con and everything works, i paid £900 plus £75 buyers tax, i thought i got the bargain of the day but looking at ebay prices i am now not so sure, any one no what the actual values of these great cars are?

book prices vary I think you paid about what its worth as it is relatively low mileage... and its got a history and 6months MOT could last you for years ....

What else could you get that gives so much luxary and comfort for £900 not much these days .. give it regular oil and filter changes with  synthetic oil and it will most likely last for another 93000

Others will no doubt advise as well

i must say driving it home i had a smile on my face all the way, also do think i should keep the service history up or service it myself.

Sounds like a fair price to me.
Bear in mind a lot of Scorpios being sold on ebay may have faults - either declared or otherwise which may be expensive to put right !
If everything works, sounds like you got a nice one for about the right money.
These cars are amazing value for money considering the spec.

Service ti your self now spending FMD prices on servicing is NOT going to reap any benefits now as the value of the car is falling .. The labour costs alone at between £50/75 per hour pay for a lot of DIY servicing and parts I have had mne for 10 years nearly and ALWAYS done my own saved thousands ! I chang emy oil and filter every 3k but everone to their own . I think il and filter is cheap compared to a new crank etc.

I sold my old Scorp at Chelmsford car auctions 3 years ago....2.0 Ghia, '95 N reg manual, cloth interior, no air-con, no cruise control, no traction control, no heated seats (with limited electric adjustment), clutch was almost shot, 182K miles & been used as a taxi for 3 years.......got £475  :)

You paid £900......but you got a Scorp with half that mileage, auto box, full electric leather seats, air-con, cruise control, traction control & alot more power....& more importantly, it wouldn't have been used as a taxi (too juicy).....so I reckon you got a good deal as long as the car is straight  :)

Happy driving  ;)

ebay cars tend in my opinion to be cheap ! I guess there will often be a reason for people not wanting to many viewers. I would insist on checking out my bus in person before parting with my money the block/auctions can be a real winner. if not, put her back through in three weeks time ! ;)

Slightly off the original topic but...browsing through a copy of Auto Trader in the supermarket while the wife was doing the shopping, I couldn't find even one Scorpio for sale.

Makes you wonder how many are still around.
