Title: Injector cleaning Post by jonnycab on Sep 19th, 2007, 2:57am What's the best way of giving the injectors a good thorough clean ? I've used copious amounts of carb cleaner before, but not sure if this was sufficient :-/ Also, they are proving a right pigs ear to remove from the rail without causing some damage, so might have to be cleaned whilst still in the rail, unless anyone has any good tips for removing them :) |

Title: Re: Injector cleaning Post by Snoopy on Sep 19th, 2007, 7:46am The BEST way is to remove them and have them cleaned ultrasonically AFAIK but as how to get them out without damage is another one I do not have the answer for .. Patience and brute strength come to mond but I am sure someone will advise . Good Luck |

Title: Re: Injector cleaning Post by howiedintheplace on Sep 22nd, 2007, 11:20pm They are a nightmare sometimes. With the cossie rail I take it off remove the little bolts, block off the fuel reg then pressure it with air till the injector I can't remove pops out ;) Yes ultrasonic is the only way to clean them. One of my engines made another 50HP simply after the injectors was cleaned. |

Title: Re: Injector cleaning Post by Tompion on Sep 23rd, 2007, 8:48pm I think this firm have been mentioned before, but I've not tried them: http://www.injectorcleaning.co.uk/index.htm |

Title: Re: Injector cleaning Post by jonnycab on Sep 24th, 2007, 12:39am Cheers Tompion....probably loads of cash.........but I'll give a ring to find out :) |

Title: Re: Injector cleaning Post by cossie_al on Sep 24th, 2007, 4:26pm wasnt there mention of this a while back, I'm sure somebody got an ultrasonic cleaner from maplins. I cant remember what the verdict was but a quick search on google brings back plenty for less than £40.00 |

Title: Re: Injector cleaning Post by jonnycab on Sep 25th, 2007, 9:14am Thanks Al, a quick search on Ebay has bought up a load for under £40. And there was me thinking that it was huge piece of expensive & complicated kit that you would need a Phd to work ::) |

Title: Re: Injector cleaning Post by cossie_al on Sep 25th, 2007, 10:01am I just wish I could find that previous thread on this >:( I do remeber that whoever it was tried it said they could not believe the amount of muck that came out. |

Title: Re: Injector cleaning Post by Tompion on Sep 25th, 2007, 10:21am Cossie_al is this the thread? although about diesel injectors: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Advice;action=display;num=1171745970;start= |

Title: Re: Injector cleaning Post by cossie_al on Sep 25th, 2007, 12:10pm thanks Tompion, That's the one I was thinking of. I've have had little experience with injectors be it petrol or diesel, so I don't know if the principals are the same where cleaning is concerned. Although I am sure a more learned member will have some input ;D |

Title: Re: Injector cleaning Post by howiedintheplace on Sep 26th, 2007, 1:10am Err guys the injectors need to be pulsed & fired as if they was fitted to the car + completely submerged. You think you can do that with a Maplin special offer. All you would do is clean the outside of the injector :P You need to replace the filter basket & rubbers too. |

Title: Re: Injector cleaning Post by jonnycab on Sep 26th, 2007, 1:22am I thought it was too good to be true ::).....probably good for making your false teeth sparkle though, not that I've got any mind you ;D |

Title: Re: Injector cleaning Post by howiedintheplace on Sep 26th, 2007, 1:34am This is who I use http://www.injectorcleaning.co.uk/index.htm Also you will get improved MPG if they are dirty that will help with the thought of paying for clean injectors. |

Title: Re: Injector cleaning Post by Tons_of_fun on Sep 30th, 2007, 9:31pm Hi all.Just caught this thread & was wondering why anyone hasnt mentioned the "in tank additive" type injector cleaner.I,ve used these cleaners in the past & found noticeable improvements in each case,but after reading some of this thread im wondering if i,ve done the right thing ??? ??? |

Title: Re: Injector cleaning Post by jonnycab on Oct 1st, 2007, 12:17am Tons.....Do you mean something like Wynns injector cleaner ? I've used it & it is good stuff, but I was thinking about cleaning the injectors thoroughly in one hit....injector cleaners only do it gradually & you don't see any difference the first time you use it....it's over a prolonged period :) It would be interesting to see if ultra sonic cleaning would make an immediate difference ;) |
||
Title: Re: Injector cleaning Post by Tons_of_fun on Oct 1st, 2007, 1:11am Yes jonny,exactly like wynns,only in the past i,ve used stp injector cleaner with around 40ltrs of fuel in the tank,& it really made a difference.You can even smell it working from the exhaust vapour.I agree with the ultra sonic cleaning though.It may cost more initially,but if the flow rate is spot on,you,ll save money in the long run (IMO) ;) |

Title: Re: Injector cleaning Post by howiedintheplace on Oct 3rd, 2007, 12:08pm Even brand new injectors can be dirty or faulty, the cleaning will show this up. Injector is flow tested before & after cleaning, also spray pattern is checked. A dirty/faulty injector could cause alot of false leads & alot of expensive replacement parts that where not faulty in the first place ;) |
