The bolts that hold the steering lock on are "shear bolts" and as such have to be cut off as they do not have any heads on ( They shear off as they are tightened). you can change it but you will need to get new bolts.

The problem I have is that my steering lock keeps sticking on and I have a right game trying to get it off again. It doesnt want to come off when trying to turn the key.I have a spare car so I can take bits off that.  Will I have to change the steering column ?

Itsounds as though your ignition lock is getting worn, which is why you are having trouble getting the lock off.  It is worth trying replacing the ignition lock before replacing the steering column. which is a cheap and easy job to do although a bit fiddley with the small parts.

YES use a slide hammer to remove it or do it with a screw driver, like the car theives do!  and replace the whole thing .....
other that that I don't know if you cannot get the barrel out. OTHERS might.

I've seen it all now!  ;D

SNOOPY advising the use of a slide hammer to fix a Scorpio!  ;D

Yep thats the only alternative now, brute force and wreck the barrel until it comes out. (gently though)

SORTED, managed to persuade the barrel to turn after much huffing and puffing so I'm using the key from the other car to start  and the original key to get past the pats system. Thanks for the advice guys
