Title: Some advice needed ... Head Gasket Post by drawlings on Oct 14th, 2007, 4:21pm Hi all, I am in the process of replacing the wiring loom through the V and was just wondering if it would be worth changing the head gasket while I am there. I currently have no known problems with the gasket, but if I was to change it would I need to have the heads skimmed or can I just replace the gasket? Thanks Dan |

Title: Re: Some advice needed ... Head Gasket Post by Matt on Oct 14th, 2007, 4:30pm you can just replace it, unless the heads are heavly pitted, but as there isnt a problem, why generate a load of work? the wireing loom can be got out without removing the heads |

Title: Re: Some advice needed ... Head Gasket Post by drawlings on Oct 14th, 2007, 4:32pm Oh yeah I know the wiring loom can be removed without touching the heads, but just thought it may be worth doing the heads as I am going to the trouble of changing the loom |

Title: Re: Some advice needed ... Head Gasket Post by howiedintheplace on Oct 21st, 2007, 7:26pm It would be crazy to replace the gaskets for no reason as by doing the job you can create problems & as said why fix it if it is not broke? |

Title: Re: Some advice needed ... Head Gasket Post by drawlings on Oct 21st, 2007, 7:46pm The reason why I asked is because the car has done over 105000 miles now, and would be due sometime soon. |

Title: Re: Some advice needed ... Head Gasket Post by howiedintheplace on Oct 21st, 2007, 8:39pm They don't usally go mate, only if the rad goes & the engine gets to hot. You can never say for sure but the head gaskets will last alot longer than say the timing gear. They may never need replacing ;) |
