Title: Its got to go but I dont know what its worth.
Post by mermaid on Oct 18th, 2007, 7:44pm
Hi,  I know I m not going to like the answer to this.

I ve (very reluctantly)  got to sell the Scorpio but I dont know whats a reasonable asking price.  I did watch a few on Ebay but the price range goes from the sublime to the ridiculous on the completed auction.  So I thought if I give you guys an honest rundown of the car you might be kind enough to give me a guide price.

Its a 94 Scorpio, 2.9 24v Ultima Cosworth automatic
153 K mileage,   very reliable, runs very well, makes all the right noises.
Immaculate Full leather interior and full electric pack.
10 months MOT and 3 months tax
good bodywork apart from blebbing to one rear wheel arch and a small (1" diameter) crazed patch of paint work on rear panel  (from  bird muck?).
4 nearly new tyres.
6 cd multichanger,  handbook, master key +2 keys +remotes.
Known faults  -  cracked driving light in front bumper, small chip in heated windscreen (proffesionally repaired ) remotes a bit erratic, boot has to be opened with a key.

Any help would really be appreciated.  Also if you ve any opinions of the best place to advertise, I was thinking of autotrader.

Unless anyone wants a swap for a diesel estate......

Unfortunatly mermaid theres no straight answer to that.I,ve seen some sell for £000,s & one even went for £12.50  :o :o.I suppose the only one that can answer that is you.Check your local area to see if theres anymore for sale to do a comparison.Auto trader website is usually a good place to start, but dont forget cossies usually ask a couple of hundred more than 16v,s & estates a little more than saloons. To give you an idea i paid £800 for a 96 12v estate that was covered in dents but had the most comprehensive history i,ve ever seen on a car.Took me 70 hours to get the car to show condition & if i had to sell it ,i wouldnt let it go for less than £1200,but at that price i doubt id get any takers.Other side of the coin, cossie jamies brother just picked up a 95 cossie saloon in good condition for £750.Sorry to ramble on but im afraid theres no straight answer. Why not be cheeky & start at say £1500 but be prepared to drop it by almost half if it dosent sell.Whatever you decide...Best of luck...Craig :)

I would reccomend the Auto trader on line service. try your luck @ 12-1500 and lowwer the price every two days till she sells. NEVER give your email out to the public on that site. leave phone no only(cast about a tenner). also I'd offer her up on his site for a hundred less and keep it updated( free). you can also try Ebay for 99 p start and make sure you pull her off before the end to generate interest. state in the ad you are looking for offers and WILL end the auction early. Ebay seems a bad move for generating good money for automobiles though.(eight quid)

I had a look at that site Andy,  good grief!!  I  think I need a paramedic!!   I rather leave it to rot on the drive than give it away that cheaply!   Thanks anyway.  I m thinking I might sell the Rover instead and keep the scorpio.   :)

I'm afraid the Scorpio has been like that for a while now, if they are running ok they are not worth selling

I could offer you my 15 year old welsh cob Pit pony.
Shes a bit broken after pulling carts for many years, however she makes a great pet, is kinder to the enviroment and her waste is fantastic for any garden....fancy a straight swop?
kind regards

Thanks for the offer,  I m sure you wont be offended if I dont take you up on it!!   child seats and buggy storage problem.

I ve had a look on Parkers and the prices there are lot better than the £300+ on the other site.  I m still not sure whether its going or staying.
