Title: Rear speaker bolt
Post by DavidBE on Oct 31st, 2007, 9:32pm
One of the rear speakers in my saloon is missing the securing bolt. Taking the bolt out of the other one to see what sort it was, it's ... unusual. My local Motor Man didn't have anything like it. Does anyone know where I can get one of these (or even what the name is for that kind of bolt)?

I'm hoping this isn't a custom something I'm going to have to pay a Ford main dealer silly money for!

Look in the spares for sale section - someone probably breaking a Scorpio will be able to help you.

Its a standard 10mm bolt, apart from the head.

The bolt in the other side has an unusual head, but also an odd, narrowed nose.

You don't need a special bolt, It has an M8 X 1.25 thread with a 10mm head with built in washer, The end is like that to make it easier to locate the thread in the speaker, All you need is a M8 X 25mm bolt and a washer.

I dont think the plain bit at the front makes any differance to how the speaker works so a 10 mm bolt of the right length should be ok. I will see if i have got one like the one in your picture and if I am at the scrapyard I will try and find one but dont hold your  breath.

It's not 10mm, A 10mm headed bolt has an M6 thread ;)

Er ... I did take it off with a 10mm socket.

A 10 mm bolt has a 13 mm head the thread size is what determines the bolt size not the head size if you get my drift.

Just because you took it off with a 10mm socket doesn't give you the thread size, That gives you the size of the head.
As I said above a 10mm headed bolt normally has a thread size of 6mm or M6, The ones in your speaker are special and have a 8mm or M8 thread, Bolts with a 8mm or M8 thread normally have a head of 13mm for which you would use a socket or spanner of 13mm.

A 10mm bolt has a 17mm head ;)

Oh yes. (I run an old watermill, and have had to get quite a few bolts. However, it's left me much better at Victorian and earlier machinery than modern!)

The question was because RichardMS said M8 with 10mm head in one post, then that a 10mm headed bolt was an M6 in another.
