Free flow air filters can produce reasonable results (3-5 hp) providing a good supply of cold air is available.Performance exhaust should give around the same in hp increase.Super chips appear to be the best value for money mod, with an increase of 8-12 hp (depending on model) & all work is guarenteed.Had my old mk3 12v estate chipped & it made a noticeable improvement.Failing that low pressure superchargers are available from the U.S. but then you are talking about serious money for (imo) not a lot of gain (15-20 hp) & the worry of putting an extra 4psi air pressure into a normaly aspirated engine  :-/

fit the 4.27 diff from the 2.0 16v will make a big difference in performance (and mpg) ;)
Decatting it will help too.

The Granada 24v BOA lends itself to tuning better than the BOB (twin turbos etc) so you could fit one of them instead ;)

Dave Howie has stroked and bored the BOB 24v to 3.7 I believe but i dont know how cost effective it is.

Also there is the possibility of mating the Explorer 4.0 V6 block with the BOB heads to give you a 4.0 BOB but again a lot of work.

Other than that i think you'll need to throw wads of cash at it ;D

You could always go down the nitrous route  ;D ;D ;D.Kits available from as little as £500......Could be good for a LAUGH (yes i know...Terrible pun)  ;)

gase,

what engine do you have?

if its a cossie then unless you want to spent a good bit of cash on in then theres nothing really, its already a pretty sorted engine,

quicker acceleration mods for cossies are really changing the diff to the 2.0 unit or the more expensive option (which im taking) is convert them to manuals

Post by Highlander on Nov 1st, 2007, 6:24pm
I bet mine with the 4.27 diff would beat your manual ;)

Although you could always fit one of those too :)

I nearly lost mine on a corner the first time i took it out with the new diff ;)

I changed to fully synthetic oil, & it's deffinately smoother, quieter & seems to have a little more punch  ;)

What about a 600bhp turbo BOB fitted to a Sierra with a 4wd skyline gear box bolted to it ;D

or 350bhp BOA turbo fitted to a Scorpio Estate running 4wd.

The manual Vrs auto 4.27 diff is a good one.

I think you will find the auto combo will win :P

if i put a 2.0 16v diff on it how will that affect the pulling power, how many seconds does it knock of a 0-60 ? also does it increase the chance of wheel spin ?

Title: Re: engine mods
Post by Highlander on Nov 2nd, 2007, 10:12am
I have a 24v with the 4.27 diff which will do 0-60 around the 6 second mark (you can give a Porsche Boxter a run for its money) ;) standard time is over 8 secs.

Obviously it does increase the chance of wheelspin but only if you turn off the traction control :)

What sort of set up are you looking at installing Gase? You have a 24v?

All you are doing is changing the gearing of the car which means actual turning force of the wheels is increased.
The auto is way over geared as std which is why this mod works so well.
Of course if the engine turns faster at a given speed then it will use more fuel.

looks like i need the 2 liter diff aswell then  :P

sports mode doesnt get the engine to 4500 - 6000 rpm at stand still however the manual can ;D

willing to find out which one will do the buissnes to  ;)

think i may need to look at fitting twin calipers to the breaks to stop it now lol

dave, have you done any 4.0l T/turbos?  ;) ;) ;)  , seriously though what sort of bhp does a standard 4l mod make or, how many beer tokens are we talking and work involded to turbo a bob. im quite handy under the bonet so could this be a winter project? would like around 300 - 350 bhp? im still young so cant go to mad as insurance will be off the scale  >:( i cringe to think what it will be when i tell them its manualed and lowered  :(

Have you never seen Smokey and the Bandit? ;)

Did that in my 150bhp Pinto'd Sierra Sapphire - snapped the crownwheel in the diff clean in half - outside a nightclub at the time  ::)

I miss the Saffy  :'(

I agree, flushed mine out first and then the added 5W30 Fully Synthetic . So along with cleaning the MAF and IAC I would have to agree with Johnnycab, mine ran much better ...I think my comment at the time was "It's like a driving a new car"  }{ Since then I've also decided to give the new 99 octane petrol a go as well  :-X

Im currently trying out these "super " fuels & to be honest i havent really noticed any difference.Im on my 5th tankfull of v-power,having already tried bp ultimate ,with no real improvements.Maybee my EECIV management retards the ignition   ???.I,ll keep you posted  ;)

Title: Re: engine mods
Post by gase on Nov 5th, 2007, 11:54pm
there is a differance between the fuels, i have a section in a clasic ford mag where they tested them on a cosworth with 500+ bhp. v-power came out best as it added about 10 extra bhp to the engine... if i can get it scanned i will post it.

An Exhaust MOD ? (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Advice;action=display;num=1193651379)

I know that the 2.9 cossie came from Cosworth with ~300 BHP and Ford DE-tuned it to 210...  :P

Post by howiedintheplace on Nov 7th, 2007, 1:55am
Actually the detuned bit is a load of rubbish that has been spread across the internet.

The emission stuff does sap power but is a must have rather than a detune ;)

The 300bhp racing engine has all the same major parts as the BOA 24V as fitted to the Granada.
But a dry sump, block brace, BOB cams, throttle bodies, tuned exhaust & a racing ECU makes all the difference.
