Title: Whereabouts of PATS module
Post by Gozz on Nov 18th, 2007, 7:24pm
I have several extended Scorpio funeral hearses and limousines, all but one are 2.9 12v and therefore will have a seperate PATS module. It would be much appreciated if one of you knowledgeable'Scorpyites' could tell me the whereabouts of this unit.I have a saloon to dismantle for spares and would like to keep as many electronic bits as possible. If you dont wish to post a reply here,I am howardgodsland@yahoo.co.uk
        Thanks in anticipation

THIS (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/electrical/antitheft/centralcontrolmod.pdf) may help.

SIMMO.Thanks for the post.Do you reckon that PATS is part of the central control module then?

If it is a late model Scorpio, then the PATS will be intigrated into the PCM. But early models did have a separate PATS module apparently mounted under the dash somewhere....could be in the CCM  :-/

This may help.....

If you look at the diagram carefully...enlarge it by using the control in the top bar...you will see that the CCM is removed by undoing two clips and sliding it out. It appears to be sitting on another unit which is held in place by 6 rivets. My understanding is that this is the unit you are looking for and that it is secured by rivets in order to prevents its easy removal. I'm sure one of our more knowlegeable members will assist in due course.  ;)

on mine (95 cossie) the top black box is the CCM, and slides out with a couple of plastic clips at the side. the ECU is silver with foam on it, sits below this, and is rivetted in with 6 rivets.

i changed both units, and did not have to change keys etc. didnt even need to reprogramme the remote. it started as per normal, so im guessing they are not connected directly to the PATS system on mine.

mine is an early model  ;)

hope this helps,

I'm probably totally wrong about this  ;), but doesn't the early model PATS sit under the ignition barrel or thereabouts ?  :-/

Thanks for your replies gents, the CCM is mounted above the EECIV and as jonnycab says, the sensor for the correct key is at the top of the steering column, this is what decides whether or not the key is kosher. However I would have thought there must be another receiving unit somewhere ! ::)

It is not a part of the CCM, because you can swap the CCM for another and still use your original key with its PATS coding. Near the ignition lock barrel is the wire loop to pick up the PATS code from the key and the wire loop has to connect to the PATS module, where ever that might be. The PATS module either has to be a part of the ECU, or closely connected to it.

The CCM operates and controls the alarm system, central locking, remote control and a number of other functions.

I half remember during the course of sorting the cruise control out, finding this module above the driver knee/shin mounted on a tray. On the tray was a second module I think - could that be the PATS?

If so, then I would expect the PATS to be locked not only to its matching keys, but also probably to the ECU. In other words the PATS alone cannot be swapped without matching keys and matching ECU.

Blimey harry.m1byt! it just gets worse and worse(apologies to Homer Simpson). Thanks for your input, perhaps I had better start wire tracing on my spares car!
