hi there

unfortunately, it is a know problem with the 2.3.

http://groups.msn.com/fordscorpio-co-uk/23plasticmanifold.msnw

you could try a repair as a few members have done or buy new (very rare 2nd hand)
at about £250 from ford.

As Scorpio man says, it is a common problem on the 2.3, & is usually associated with a blown head gasket or cracked cylinder head....but not always, as I have found.

Sometimes the cheapo plastic 2.3 manifold that Ford (in their infinate wisdom fitted & obviously didn't test properly) can just split under pressure & heat.

It can be repaired though, as long as the split isn't too big & is in a straight line along the top of the T-stat housing  :)

Read this.....http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Problems;action=display;num=1194877635;start=0#0

Hope it helps  :)

Cheers guys, in my ignorance I thought this only a small part but now I realise that this is not the case. New one on the way £222 gulp, having said that this still makes this still a below average priced car (it cost me £700) for the age and is still a lot of motor for the bucks. It just flew through an MOT with no probs. Im hoping that once the inlet manifold is replaced this will last me a good few years.

Thanks for the help chaps

Shouldn't that be in my ignorance I thought no one would be stupid enough to make the manifold/thermostat housing in plastic let alone in one piece?
