Title: temp gauge Post by scorpius new on Dec 11th, 2007, 12:42pm Hi all, just recently bought a scorpio ultima estate, the only problem is that the temp gauge mostly reads cold but sometimes reads normal, i have a scorpio ultima saloon and thought i could take the sender unit off this, but dont know where it is or what it looks like?? on the old granadas it was just a rod that unbolted from the engine so was easy, Any ideas where it is and if its the same sort of set up ??? Thanx guys. Andy. |

Title: Re: temp gauge Post by Simmo on Dec 11th, 2007, 1:01pm Have a read of THIS page (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/23looms.htm) scroll down to 'Sensors' and look on the drawing for B10. There are two units side by side. B10 provides the engine temperature to the 'brain' BUT you need to locate its neighbour which, IIRC has only one wire going to it as it is this one which provides the signal to the dashboard gauge. I think from your description it is certainly similar to the one you describe. On the 2ltr they are tucked under the air intake hoses on the thermostat housing. :) |

Title: Re: temp gauge Post by Highlander on Dec 11th, 2007, 9:57pm Might be worth checking you actually have a thermostat and someones not removed it and that it isnt jammed open, but try the sender unit first as thats a common one |

Title: Re: temp gauge Post by harry.m1byt on Dec 12th, 2007, 9:22pm In addition to the other comments - Also check the engine loom multi-plug through which these wires pass, it costs nothing but 5 minutes to do.... Look for what look like a black box low down on the inner wing into which all of the cables from the engine to the body pass, with a bolt head on the top. Unscrew the bolt and it will split the plug and socket. Using the bolt, run the plug in and out a few times to clean up any oxidation on he contacts. This was what was causing my gauge to show low readings with the occaisional time showing as 'Normal'. |
