Title: Heater
Post by Wadman on Jan 5th, 2008, 9:42pm

A Happy New Year to one and all.

In regard to one side of my heating system not producing heat, we have a result.

After carrying out the good advise given re "reset" etc, the heating is back to normal.

Does anybody know of a simple, cheap way to measure fairly accurately, the temperature coming out of the vent?

If the heater is working properly, then at full heat you should be able to roast a chestnut in front of the side vents  ;)....

...not really  ;D.... but it should be nice & hot though  :)

As a retired engineer, I know that nothing is perfect. So I was just curious as to how accurate this complicated  heater system was if I selected say, a 23 setting on both the passenger and driver's side.

I have an internal sensor fitted to my car and a digital read out and the temperature control seems reasonably accurate to within a couple of degrees from my research.

I am assuming the sensor is positioned where the outlet from both sides of the car influence the value recorded. I am trying to establish if the passenger outlet is the same temp' as the driver outlet, given both sides are set to the same number ie 23.

Well I know that if you set the passenger side to 18 and the driver side to 24 then you can actually feel the difference in the tempoerature of the air exiting the vents . I well remeber my wife complaining about being in a cold draught some time ago I had mine on 22 and she was still on 18 as soon as she altered the value sthe COLD draught went .

My sensor is in the middle of the car so reads a general value .

I think I read somewhere that there are three sensors. One in the middle of the CC panel with a grid covering it and one each in the air ducts to each foot well.

Harry. The footwell sensors are mentioned in THIS (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/aircon.htm) article on climate control.  ;) Mike.

Am I right in suggesting that 2 separate floor vents exist on each side of the centre console? I ask this because of an extremely irritating problem I have with the cc system. The floor heating air output works fine left and right hand sides but even if I set the temp to a high value, there exists a second 'draft' that is always cold air. You can feel the hot air around your feet but this other cold draft is further back toward the centre console and freezes my left leg yet my feet are hot >:(

I can't vouch for the internal layout BUT each of the flaps which divert the airflow have a foam seal on them and maybe, with the passage of time, this has disintegrated thus allowing air to enter from another source ?.

Thank you gentlemen all. I will give the matter more thought and report later.
