Title: Air Con Post by Kiell on Jan 21st, 2008, 9:57am Hi All, Does the AC come on by default? When I start the car the green light illuminates on the AC button. In this cold weather I turn it off straight away.. Is there anyway I can set the controls so it does not come on automatically? I own a `97 Ultima. (very pleased with! :D ) |

Title: Re: Air Con Post by Tompion on Jan 21st, 2008, 10:56am Hi Welcome to the site. Yes default on unless you've turned it off recently (within the last hour? or something like that) & re-started. It needs to be run occasionally to keep the seals in good condition. If you have the control set to windscreen it will be on (even if the aircon light is off). I used to keep turning mine off, but don't bother now as it helps keep the car dry & windows clear. It'll pretty much only be acting as a dehumidifier at this time of year unless you have the temperature set low. If you find it irritates your throat make sure the filters are clean & use one of the aircon cleaners. Dave |

Title: Re: Air Con Post by harry.m1byt on Jan 21st, 2008, 7:37pm Don't worry too much about it in the winter - despite the light being on, it will only run as and when needed. It does runs when you turn it to demist, to dry the air. In summer it is a different matter and if you don't need it and want to save a little fuel, then make sure it is off. I suggest you at least allow it to run briefly and quite regularly, as it helps circulate the oil and keep the seals in good condition. |

Title: Re: Air Con Post by mr._floppy on Jan 23rd, 2008, 4:51pm I always like to check the cooling aspect of the A/C is working, even in Winter. But with the A/C light on, both indicators at LO ,and the blower on fully to the right I can't seem to get any cold air out of it these days. The compressor is turning but the silver output pipe doesn't get even slightly cold. After spending a cool amount of dosh to get it working last year, I'm reluctant to throw more cash at it :-/ Orrrrrr, does the outside or inside air temp have to be over a certain temp before the system pushes out cold air ? |

Title: Re: Air Con Post by Snoopy on Jan 23rd, 2008, 7:35pm As already stated if the outside temperature is below 4 c then the aircon will NOT operate.... its all in the handbook but it does sound as though your system needs a recharge costs between 50 and 100 £ depending on where you go ..... |
