Title: ABS and Traction Lights ON - Problem fixed
Post by davem on Jan 23rd, 2008, 12:11pm
Cosworth '95 - Just for those that have the problem whereby the ABS and traction control lights come on after starting off (above 15mph) I found a solution in my particualr case. This solution may also be applicable to others with the same problem.
For quite a few years now I would get the above problem particularly in damp weather. The next day, the lights would be off and traction and ABS would be ok again.
Two weeks ago, the same problem appeared but this time it remained until I fixed it 30 minutes ago.
In my case the problem was a corroded wire in the ABS pump/control panel connector. This wire had obvioulsy been getting worse over the years.
Connecting a diagnostics unit to the car showed "ABS pump failure circuit" and as this is a nasty job to replace I investigated further. This connector is just next to and benieth the pump ( engine compartment - driver's side)  The connector is bolted on. I unbolted it and removed the plug connector. I then removed the plastic cover to the connector and noticed green corrosion. I gently moved the wire and it broke. hmmm
OK..a bit of soldering and a new bit of wire to join them together and refitting the connector took me 15 minutes and the ABS and traction lights have gone, maybe forever.
Hope this helps someone.
