Title: ADVICE NEEDED ON A/C COMPRESSOR
Post by gerryw on Jan 24th, 2008, 1:09pm
Hi all,
I am about to buy a second-hand Air Con Compressor/Pump from a 1994 24v in good working order.

I want to connect it to my 1997 24v Cossie.

The question is:- IS IT COMPATIBLE WITH A 1997 MODEL???

I would appreciate it if a reply could be had ASAP because if is compatible then I need to buy it pronto...

Many Regards
Gerryw

hi there

it'll fit fine. just keep the connectors covered in cling film until fitting it.

btw, all pumps are the same, iirc. it's the 'carry bracket' that's different for the different engines.

remember you need someone to empty the system before taking off the old one. ;)

when refilling, make sure you put it in a deep vacuum for 30 mins. then get them to add the oil in the knuckle so that it gets straight down to the pump first.

Hi again,

I have two pictures of the Air Comppressor but I do not know howt to insert them into this posting.

If you would like to have a look at them to see if they would confirm your last posting, please let me know how to insert them from 'My Pictures' into a reply posting....

Regards
Gerryw

You need to have them hosted online Gerry on a server.

I use www.tinypic.com upload it, copy the link and paste it in your post

Hi Scorpio-man,

Did you get the A/C Compressor pics I email to you on Thursday?

If you did'nt I could resend if you want.

I just thought that you could confirm that it would fit my '97' Cossie?

hi there

remember the a/c isn't a cooling device, it's a drying device. it's a device to remove the moisture from the air. cooling is just a nice by-product.

that's why you should run it all the time as it will keep all the windows fog free.

Hi,

Ahhh, so that was one of the reasons I always had a dry throat and nose?

I always turned it off because of that. Do you think that may have caused  the A/Cs early demise?

It would be interesting to know, and also, when I do get it up and running again is there a setting that will allow a modicum of moisture floating around in the cabin?

Regards
Gerryw

Its certainly advisable to run it regularly just to keep it ticking over, mines never off

Running it constantly or at least once a week in the winter is designed to keep the seals in the system oiled so that they do not dry out and thus cause leaks. Once you have removed the mist from the interior you can turn it off until it is required again. Remember if the unit is set to 'screen' it will be on by default. Go to THIS page (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/aircon.htm) and check out the 'buttons' on the left hand side as well to understand the two systems.
