Title: how clean
Post by vosper on Feb 18th, 2008, 7:46pm
HI
Trying to get abs light off, i think the rears are at fault,
I get 1 volt from front sensors when i spin the weel.
Cannot spin back one's fast to get a reading.
How clean should the ring be, ie remove all rust and should it be shiney.
Thanks
Vosper

It may be its simply failed, I'd take it to someone that can do a scan and read the fault code. Thats what I ened up doing saved me alot of time!

The sensor rings just need to be free from debris surface rust doesn't matter, don't need to be shiny

None loose surface coating of rust and none metallic dirt will not be a problem, but larger chunks of loose rust and metal fillings around/between the cogs will be.

It only needs to have one cog so choked and failing to generate a volage pulse, to trigger an ABS fault. The 1v only really confirms that the sensor is working as it should, it doesn't confirm that the pulses are all occuring as each cog passes the sensor. Confirming that needs a means to turn the wheel at a regular rotation speed and some means to watch the actual pulses oscilloscope or a missing pulse detector.
