Title: 96' facelift
Post by chadwell24 on Mar 11th, 2008, 11:22am
Hi, just bought our Scorpio and we love it but it seems to be a bit of an enigma.. It was first registered 21/11/96 but it is a facelift model. Is this unsual??

Possibly 'modified' to facelift style by a previous owner. Many on this site have and continue to do so. Welcome ;)

Don't worry about it, be happy ;D

Those parts are quite expensive and hard to find second hand, I've even seen a couple of 'facelifts' on N plates in the past ;)

Regards, Bruce.

I don't want to scare you and it's just a thought, are the chances of one being crashed and then repaired with facelift lights a possibility?
Apart from lights, how else do you check for facelift models?

Has it got a lap strap for the centre back seat belt or a three point one.

if its a 96 it wont have the the 3 point center rear seat belt as a modified parcel shelf was fitted to the facelift modles to accommodate it.

also its doubt full its crash damaged and repaired using the face lift parts, for one they are much harder to get hold of so would bump up the price of the bill.

a few members have had there facelift cars repaired at garages only to find pre facelift parts had been fitted instead.

as Tiberius says, its more then likely just someone upgrading it, ive done it to my n plate cossie, its a easy job to do, straight swap infact!

didnt they fit the passanger front air bag to the only the facelift models? the dash's are slightly diffrent between the air bag and non air bag, and i dont just mean the SRS airbag logo on the dash panel, the upper egde arround the walnut facia is more tapered on the air bag models

Matt, mine had the passenger airbag, didn't realise the dash was different. I've got some close shots of the dash somewhere..

It had everything except TC and leather, which isn't very much really ::)

Mines an EARLY '95 and it has the passenger air bag. Iirc (and I probably don't) side air bags were added to the facelift.
