Title: Average fuel consumption of a 2L
Post by sherry on Mar 16th, 2008, 10:12am
Hi.

Would someone be able to tell me what is the expected fuel consumption of my 2L.

The trip computer says i am getting around 25 MPG.

Is this correct or should i be expecting more.

£20 doesn't get me very far now.

I am not driving fast or heavy acceleration etc.

Cheers.

On  a  straight  flat  road  at  a  steady  60,

Roughly  just  over  the  30MPG.

I do around 25mpg "around town" but have managed to do around 32mpg on a run.
I don't know if the 8v is different. Mine's the 16v.

My indicated average seems to be around 32, but the bulk of my journeys are motorway.

Hmm - 32.6mpg for a 2ltr @ 75mph?  My Cossie suddenly doesn't seem so bad anymore - I got 230 miles on 36ltrs  @ 75mph on a run from London to Blackpool - 28.6mpg.  4 mpg seems a good trade in for the power/quietness :-)

I must admit, my 20mpg round town isn't so good though  :o

I got 35 mpg from my 2.0 @ a boring 60 mph (it was foggy, and wet, and rainy....you get the picture ) :P. Around town it gave a 20 mpg

I get 22-24 in town and 30-33 on a run from my 24v...

Much less if I'm in a hurry though.

Greetings,
Unfortunately yes! 'Fraid it's a bit like that. 'Tis a heavy car after all. But also it means it's solid, roomy, carries loads of gear, comfortable, more resistant to crosswinds etc. etc...

I can confirm what the other wrote here re 2.0l 16V. Did a round trip to Yorkshire last year, about 500+ miles. Found out it works best if you keep the revs above 3,500 (there's a power step there). Even better at 4,000+, about 75 - 80 mph (another power step). Got about 32 mpg on average, I worked out, & this is an auto. Trick is to turn the OD off & keep it over 3,500 rpm then it'll cope with anything. The 2L engine's not really got enough guts to pull OD properly, which is why the 2.3 came out in 1996. If I'd got 25mpg I'd have thought that was OK! Bought £90 fuel altogether & still had half a tank left when I got home.

FWIW, the TD I used to have only managed 31-32mpg, though it was consistent and would run on cooking oil...

Praise be the cooking oil! :)

Currently I can get it for 53p a litre half the price of diesel making my mpg nearer 60 ;p
