Title: Plastic weld
Post by Si-H on Mar 21st, 2008, 9:33pm
Hi, I have  '95 2.5 diesel with a leaking expansion tank. The crack is not huge, so I'm wondering if if can be repaired with any kind of plastic weld ? Anyone have any experience of using this stuff? These expansion tanks are quite hard to get hold of ! Cheers Si.

You may be able to carefully weld the edges together with a soldering iron or a hot knife, the tank is made from a kind of polythene so a like material could be applied using this method.  Don't know how long it would last cos it is under pressure but I welded up a front plastic bumper using this method.
It's worth a try.... ;)

you can get plasti weld kits from motorbike shops, catalogues etc but i dont know if it'd work in a pressurized situation as they're meant for cracks in fairings....

I have been using LOCTITE repair express its like putty that you mix with your fingers, that works with plastic.
