Title: New battery specification is this one ok?
Post by chrali on Mar 27th, 2008, 10:51am
After 2 months of dead weight scorp I'm looking at gettin g a new battery, every (I tried 4) local motor factor is quoting between £56 to £61 for a 590CC 60Ah battery.

Is that the correct spec for a 2.9 12v Scorp? The FAQ's show a 750CC 71Ah !!!

I haven't a lot of cash to spare and dont want to get the wrong one.  :-/

NO you need the 71Ah for it to be any good .... Keep trying  there are some quite good cheaper ones out there ...Try asking for a heavy duty one . they are ussually better spec.

THIS (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/battery.htm) tells you all you need to know. There is no point in having a smaller capacity battery as these cars need a large amount of power to start them.  ;)

Yeah , I checked the battery page, thats why I thought I'd double check........ so why are all the shops quoting me the 590CC 60Ah battery? One even quoted me 520CC 60Ah battery!!!!

Doesnt look like I'll afford more this month, had to pay vet bill and buy new rugs for the gee gees.... sigh ....  :'(

Most factors quote for the older scorpio NOT the 1994/98 one from my experience.

I definitely made clear its not the Granny ... i think they all call it a type 97!!!????

Are the 71AH ones a heavy duty type 97, or another type altogether?

General rule, fit the heaviest battery you can find/fit/afford :)

Largest square post battery as standard fit to the scorp is the 097 - but buy some round post terminal converters and for roughly the same price, you can get 100AH batteries in the same footprint......

[] when mine dies i will go down the round post route, much wider choice and generally cheaper too.
