Title: Windscreen
Post by RickLewis on Jun 9th, 2008, 12:18am
Given some of the very technical problems discussed here I'm almost embarrassed to be asking about something so mundane, but today I found a big crack running across my windscreen. No sign of a chip from a stone, so I don't quite know how the crack started, but never mind. My question is simply whether anyone has any good recommendations for getting windscreens replaced on a Scorpio. I'm in London. Cheers!

The only realistic answer is to use Autoglass or a similar company. Are you not covered by your Insurance Company ??. These items are not cheap !!!!!.

I've seen a few begin from a corner which is often the result of corrosion under the glass, the rust raises up and puts pressure on the glass which eventually breaks it

Hello Rick,

On the recommendation of my local three man garage I employed Fast Fit Nationwide Ltd of Bromsgrove.  Tel 01527 575729

The fitting was done on my drive by two fitters and the job probably took three hours, including the fitting of a replacement dipping mirror and associated wiring.

I tried the RAC who were more expensive although their quote included a new surround for the screen.

I was surprised at the scale of the job as the old adhesive had to be removed, and the aperture thoroughly cleaned. New adhesive was extruded from a gun leaving a neat rectangular bed on to which the new screen was placed.

The fitters believed that a new rubber surround to the screen would not make as good a job as using the original and the replacement screen fits perfectly.

The whole job was carried out last December at a cost of  £246.75 including VAT.

Fast Fit are an expanding company based in the midlands and they may work into your area.

         Regards   73’s      Malcolm
