Title: Changing E.C.U.
Post by Ultima_Bloke on Jun 15th, 2008, 10:31pm
Hi, If I change the e.c.u on my 1996 scorp 24v, for one off a scrapper, will I need the key and immobiliser chip from the donor car?? Cheers.

Not entirely sure, but I think you'll be okay just replacing the ECU (PCM), as on the older Scorps the PATS isn't part of the PCM.

On later Scorps, like the facelift, the PATS is incorporated into the PCM, so there is no way you can change the PCM without reprogramming the key  :)

Hope this helps  :)

Aahh.... that could be a problem then.... the scrap scorp that I got the e.c.u out of, was a facelift!! Whereas my scorp is a pre-facelift!!

Open them both up & compare the innerds  :)

I have 2 spare 2.3 ecus, one early & one facelift & the facelift one has more circuitry....not sure, but this may be the case with the cossie ecu as well  :-/

there is a code name on the ecu which should match, I did one on an escort and it had to be set up at fords cos it wouldn't allow the car to start. :'(

@ I know, it is a different car but the chance is there to take.

:-/ I have an ecu out of my old 2ltr car and it has a different namecode to my present one, 2.3.

Good luck
Pete
