Title: Replacing stereo 7000 with 2 din? Post by pappa on Jul 4th, 2008, 10:53am Hi guys/Gals! Tried searching through the forum, but was unable to find "accurate" information on this subject. I'm about to go and buy a new stereo set for my Scorps and I've been looking into a Pioneer Fh-p80bt 2 din player with Bluetooth and stuff. The whole for the stereo is 1.5 DIN I think? Has anyone done a mod/stuffed a 2 DIN unit into the Ford standard slot? |

Post by corsairnutta on Jul 4th, 2008, 10:16pm Hi, i've fitted a double din touchscreen unit and there's alot of work involved i had to cut the bottom part of the dash and cut out a metal bracket that the original radio hooks onto. Its alot of work and nerveracking cutting the dash! looks good though. Good luck. |

Title: Re: Replacing stereo 7000 with 2 din? Post by adzst24 on Jul 5th, 2008, 2:30pm I have to agree with corsairnutta. I had the chop up the dash front on my old mondeo st to fit a double din pioneer unit but as he said if you get it right it looks great. you could buy a spare dash front off *bay they seem to cost about £20 on average and cut that then you will still have one if it all goes pete tong :( I believe that ford radio units are more like 1.5 din ? just an idear hope it helps ;D regards Adzs |

Title: Re: Replacing stereo 7000 with 2 din? Post by dave_ryman on Jul 31st, 2008, 1:29pm Hi. New here. I'm thinking of replacing the stereo - but there's no way I was planning on doing any chopping. Will the recess mount for a 2 DIN stereo fit in the space provided? I can't believe it wouldn't snag on the ashtray or heater controls, since it all seems fairly tight in there. I was planning on an ordinary 1 DIN head unit with a fascia adapter: What I would really like is an adapter that provides a cubby hole under the stereo, but they don't seem to exist for this size. |

Mine had one factory fitted from Ford, so they do exist. |

I'm not certain but I thing there's a difference in the dash - possibly you need to change the whole plastic/wood facia |

I think you are right Tompion. The original cars had a 1 DIN radio and a moulded cubby hole underneath which wasn't removeable. I stuck a 1 DIN radio in mine the other month and just used a blank from an escort I found in a scrap yard. Can't see the usefulness of a slot which isn't big enough to take a p[acket of fags! |

Title: Re: Replacing stereo 7000 with 2 din? Post by dave_ryman on Aug 10th, 2008, 12:29pm The same way that they hide the lighter in the ashtray assembly! It's a little annoying that you have to open the ashtray to get a power source for sat-navs and the like, especially if you're a smoker and there's some dog ends in there. Here's an idea, then. I've seen power supplies in boots of some cars which are cigarette lighter sockets with a flush hinged plastic cover over. suppose I fit a 0.8DIN blanking plate under the new stereo with a couple of such sockets mounted on the blanking plate? It's near enough to the existing lighter socket that I could easily run them off as an extension. If I can't find a suitable accessory, just a replacement cigarette lighter socket from halfords would do the job. |

Title: Re: Replacing stereo 7000 with 2 din? Post by dave_ryman on Aug 10th, 2008, 12:53pm Maplin do such accessory sockets - with the cover for £5 each: http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=99505&doy=10m8#features I've just done a little plan, which suggests that there would be room for these to be mounted in the 0.8 DIN blanking plate below the 1.0 DIN headunit. |
